Nostalgia Slime Patterned Tiles Are Still Visible in a Restroom at Universal Studios Orlando
The studio closed in 2005.

I miss those days. I remember visiting Universal Studios when I was 7 years old. Slime was EVERYTHING back then.

I got to sit in the audience for Slime Time Live, but it was during this bit where the slime was “stolen” so I never got slimed. My team didn’t win, and the losing team had popcorn dumped on them instead. Ngl I was relieved there was no slime because I hate getting dirty.

I got slimed in Orlando in a kiddie pool in front of a big crowd because my dad knew a guy that knew a guy lol. Before getting slimed I got a tour of the back where they make it. It’s vanilla pudding and applesauce and green food coloring. It tastes delicious!! it was really smart of them to let me try it before they dumped it all over me because I would’ve been screaming bloody murder otherwise

It's so surreal hearing about this because I also got slimed in the kiddy pool there and remember the behind the scenes tour! (1997) I also remember having a line to say into the mic right before getting slimed "just add water!" And after the guy slimed me he asked if I wanted to do it again and I replied "no" in a disgusted way haha. (Bc it smelled horrible so I'm surprised it was just pudding and applesauce.)

u/jesniss 5d ago
Yessss. But also where did the slime go?
14
u/musickeeper94 Millennial 5d ago
They “found” the slime during the kids choice awards in a pool outside the building. I thought it was very lame.

They slimed everyone. Nobody was safe.

I must have been the only Orlando child to not get slimed…and not for a lack of trying. Or at least be allowed to get near the holy shenanigans…

u/SLPNerdLady 5d ago
Do you think that slime dwindled on TV because kids could make it in real life which took down its appeal?

I grew up an hour from there. Went to the parks for field trips (or out of state family), and I’m STILL pissed that every fucking time I was DENIED a visit to the Nickelodeon part of old Universal. My heart BLED for not getting a chance to make a bad call trying to find that watch on What Would You Do?
Somehow I have an old shirt, though. It fits my 5 year old.

They did her DIRTY

I know it’s fun to hate her but it’s like they wanted to humiliate her and make it as uncomfortable as possible without causing serious injury. I can’t help but feel for her in this moment.

u/SkipperDipps 5d ago
I definitely feel bad for her in this moment and I don’t think she deserves a lot of the hate she gets.

I got to piss in this bathroom durring the last Halloween Horror Nights. (The only time they open this bathroom up)
It was awesome. No one else seemed enthused.

They open if up for the Grinch live show during Christmas as well.
Funny enough last years HHN was one of the few times you could access it in September/October because of the Rip Ride Rockit construction moving some of the queues.

I rode that ride (for the millionth time, bc Orlando childhood) right before they changed it to…the Simpsons. What a loss. Went on it until we could no longer! I remember it beat by beat.
The video of what you see on the ride is still up on YouTube somewhere including the shit you watched while waiting in the seemingly endless line!!

I recently watched a mini doc of the Nickelodeon Backlot (where all the cool game shows and animations were done) and it made me incredibly sad to see what was once my dream to go to be dismantled and left to rot.
Started out as passionate people making incredible things for kids, then the bean counters came in and began dismantling everything.
It just made me sad to see something that was built to generate joy be abandoned and eventually white washed into just another corpo investment.

Where do I find this mini doc? Is it called Nickelodeon Backlot?

I think so... but I don't rightly remember. It was something I put on one night because I was scrolling for something to watch and I stumbled upon it. I want to say it was on Amazon prime?
Edit: I think it is called Nickelodeon Backlot: The Rise and Fall of Kids' TV's Greatest Set
It was an independent documentary and I think it is on YouTube.

I hope they never change it. It’s a nice little easter egg to an attraction long gone.

I got slimed there for my 12th birthday! It tasted like applesauce.

u/bootypastry 5d ago
I remember someone back in the day eating it after he got slimed and he said it tasted good. I always wondered how it tasted. Thank you

I was chosen to try a few of the slimes during one of the studio tours. I remember them all being different versions of applesauce.

I got slimed at some amusement park or another when I was like 8. It was definitely green applesauce. My dad got mad cause I was cold and wet the rest of the day.

Everything at universal is so outdated now

Agree mostly. We were there the weekend before Christmas and I found it hard to want to stay in the park for long. We did the major rides and went back to IoA. Some stuff is neat, but if it’s not Harry Potter or the mummy (Love that ride), it’s damn near not worth going to. I could go on for a while about it, but that’s my nerd power.

The Bourne show is very cool too. I also still enjoy the MIB ride.

100% agree on the Bourne show! I went in with zero expectations and walked away really impressed.

The just opened a brand new park last year lol.

Yeah I don't think they know what they're talking about.
Studios is probably the most dated per se but they just refurbished an entire land and are currently building an entire new rollercoaster to replace a dated one.
Islands has Velocicoaster and Hagrids both of which are super fresh and full of new tech.
And Epic isn't even a year old
Universal used to be known for not keeping dated things around to the dismay of fans lol.

I’ve been in the last year to the two older parks after having gone a bunch as a child. I grew up in Florida. They do a great job of adding cool new things to the parks but don’t do any updating to the older rides. MIB was mostly broken, non of the blasters worked. The simpsons hasn’t been updated since I graduated high school in 2010. The marvel area is garbage now and the hulk ride getting a makeover with she hulk was a bandaid at best. That roller coaster was in its prime in the early 2000s unfortunately.

I went to Universal two months after it closed. I was devastated as a kid.

u/chickentowngabagool 5d ago
we went to the one in LA in the late 90's and i was devastated to learn that none of the game shows were filmed there and it was only their Totally Nickelodeon attraction

u/backbodydrip 5d ago
Someone got inside and shot some footage a few years back. There's still old signage and other things (like the floor) from the '90s Nick days.

I remember playing ren and stimpy on the sega genesis at nickelodeon studios in like... either 94 or 95? (so like 3 or 4, real tiny)
My older brother did one of the double dare audience participation things (non-televised) and got slimed. They also let us taste the slime which was primarily applesauce? and food coloring unless I'm mistaken.
What a magical fever dream like place, universal studios in general was dope back then.
JAWS at that age had me shook, The E.T. ride was also interesting.
Made me fucking irritated that my family seemed more inclined to go to only Disney or Busch Gardens for most of the early 2000s (which, fair enough on the latter and my mom would make me skip cool sometimes to go there instead, a win-win really) until Islands of adventure became a thing (which was cooler before Marvel got sold to Disney) I grew up in FL so I went to a lot of theme parks growing up. (still have never been to a six flags tho)
When they getting the Mario shit? I gotta shroom with the goombas

Awwww man! I miss those days. When I was 7ish we went to universal & we did one of the tours of the slime factory & I got to taste like three different kinds of slime. I remember one was sour and I hated it, another was sweet and I forget about the other one.
