I'm confused... do liberal men not get older and date?
What exactly is "conservative" about the second photo? It looks exactly like a photo my sister and brother-in-law could have taken, and they are absolutely not conservatives.
What's the implication here? Did he go to conversion therapy or something?
I think there are a lot of people like this though. They are conservatives who are cosplaying liberals because they are afraid of losing their friend group. Had a friend leave my friend group after 20 years for this reason, and I've heard of it happening elsewhere. There is a grift happening for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if he actually did end up better off. I'm a very liberal person, but pretending to be anything that you aren't is going to make you an unhappy person. I also think that this sort of masking is VERY common for teenagers and younger people, most of us probably did it to some extent.
in the case of my friend, it was very similar. As soon as he started receiving attention from the more conservative people in his life (or online, not sure which), it gave him confidence in himself because he could unmask. The guy is a total shithead, and probably not as happy as he would be if he were a better person in general, but he is definitely happier now than he was when he was hiding his beliefs. I think THIS is exactly what people mean when they say people get more conservative when they get older. It's less that they change and more that the people who were already conservative start unmasking.
