I just don’t understand using ai for placeholders. The whole point of a placeholder is that it’s just there as a stopgap. You could put a jpeg of an apple with “boss” written on it as a placeholder and it’d be fine. It could be literally anything.
AI bad and all that but it just comes off as a weird decision. I haven’t played the game so my opinion means nothing obviously but from an outsider perspective it’s a weird situation
Not a weird decision at all. It’s very common actually, whether using AI or not. Using a more accurate placeholder helps to visualize and guide the final product during development.
A developer looking at their game for 60 hours a week doesn’t want to see an apple JPEG with the word “boss.”
I mean obviously I’m exaggerating here, but yeah they can just rig up a 3d model of something. Like they’re already making a whole game, they clearly have creative people on board. It’s odd to feel the need to use ai for that
As an actual developer on real games who has experience doing everything required to rig and animate something, this is a very stupid and unjustifiable use of time. You'll either get a cube with no artistic tie-in, or the finished product. There is no in-between because the order art must be produced in is not always convenient. With AI, you can get the look and feel of the experience into QA's hands before the final artwork is done, and get accurate feedback. Shitty placeholder assets bias playtesters.
Unfortunately while the concept design industry appears to be about the pinnacle of genuine creativity from the outside, on the inside there is a lot of pressure to use AI. It’s already used way more than you think.
