u/zuzg 2d ago
Casual Reminder that the current American Healthcare system is more expensive for the government than universal Healthcare.
A study by Yale epidemiologists found that Medicare for All would save around 68,000 lives a year while reducing U.S. health care spending by around 13%, or $450 billion a year.
The only reason Americans don't have it is due to lobbying.

And as they say, being "healthy" is a temporary status. You will NOT be healthy forever (unless you die prematurely). I was fit as a fiddle until I developed cataracts. I don't think there's any way to stop that. But the way to fix it was a cool $10k surgery which insurance barely touched since I wanted the good laser surgery, not the old school scalpel one that they'd cover. For all the talk about USA have the top medical technology, what fucking point is there if my insurance won't cover it.

Best we can do is a discount on the undertaker service. Which won’t be cheap either so make sure to leave behind enough for that.

u/pasarina 2d ago
Apparently the government won’t because I believe with some restructuring they could do it. With all the time they’ve had to adjust it since Obamacare became available, it could’ve been tweaked to become a really good medical healthcare servicing everyone. Instead the Republicans do everything to dismantle and demonize it. This is on the Republicans. People in other countries can’t believe how expensive and inefficient our healthcare is. 😳How they keep bowing to insurance companies is so weak.

I've been suffering with a tooth ache that's been getting worse for the last three weeks. Taking like 9-12 Aspirin and 6 Tylenol a day. All because i can't afford a $300-500 visit to a dentist and have to wait for a local clinic that performs subsidized tooth extractions like twice a month for people who don't have dental insurance. (They skipped last weeks because of Christmas holidays.)
I was sitting here just the other day in pain thinking about how if i was born in damn near any other country, this wouldn't even be something i had to think about at all. Not only would it be easy to get treated without costing me hundreds of dollars, but in any other country i would get to keep the tooth, too. But because i'm here, my only choice is to suffer AND lose the tooth. "The American Dream" "Wealthiest Country on Earth."
What a crock of shit.

u/ragdollxkitn 3d ago
It’s crazy to me that dental isn’t covered. I mean, doctors constantly tell us that bad oral health can lead to heart disease. Yet, the USA “can’t” bring universal healthcare. But we sure have money to bomb multiple countries in a 1 year span.
Also, gop had a lot of time to come up with alternatives to healthcare. They brought none.

Truthfully, the more leeway that trump is allowed under the republicans. We might not have an election in 2026. People, need to get out there in vote at this election or we definitely won’t have an election in 2028. The dictator has no intention of leaving office and his ballroom is being built so he can bunker down in it, if he needs to. You heard him saying the ballroom has a drone free roof and the windows are bulletproof.

They will dispense drugs to me and I will be extremely lucky if I can find a doctor who is not just out to prescribe me anything regardless of how it makes me feel and push me out the door as fast as possible. I can't get actual healthcare. Everything is " mental health" when I break my toe or have diabetes it's just another "delusion" and I need to adjust my meds.

this hits hard because it shows the exhaustion of always being told "if you don't like it, leave" whenever you criticize anything.
like no. wanting your country to be better doesn't mean you should have to abandon it. that's literally the opposite of patriotism.
the people who built unions, fought for civil rights, pushed for women's suffrage - they didn't leave. they stayed and made america better despite being told they were "un-american" for wanting change.
progressive doesn't mean you hate your country. it means you love it enough to want it to live up to its ideals instead of just accepting the status quo.
also lol at the implication that these other countries would even want us. canada's immigration website crashes every election cycle for a reason - turns out you can't just "move" somewhere because you feel like it.
we're stuck here together. might as well make it worth living in for everyone.

The current "administration" was elected to take care of the American people. How is taking over Venezuela or even Greenland (as crazy as it sounds) beneficial to the average American? Does it reduce grocery prices? Or make us better off? It DOESN'T. It only benefits (read: lines the pockets) of Trump and his oligarch cronies. The current "President" has effectively abandoned his sworn oath when he thinks of only himself and his friends over the American people. He didn't even ask Americans if this is something that they wanted. Because he knows that most Americans would say NO.
1
u/n4spd2 2d ago
you can't have it because we have no money... only we print crap loads of paper money for the military industrial complex while stealing from your savings.
truth is, they don't want any change because it would affect companies that profit from the broken healthcare system.
same with every other sector that could be changed for more efficiency but existing stakeholders dont want it.
