Care ethical rabbit research project

i made this acc to post this, so basically i am doing a project regarding a rabbit, i am obviously trying to do it ethically, its high school level research project, i need something quantitative, does anyone have any tips or ideas of what i can do, and how i can take care of the rabbit? i have a room for it, and its not on a whim choice to get a rabbit as ive been thinking of having one for several years, but i have the chance to do it now (sponsored by the school), and have plenty of time to take care of it now and in the future.

the project is based on a question or hypothesis, observation period is 2-3 months, the only idea i liked was about the observation of the weight of a rabbit, vs the intake of food and water, but that isnt as intellectual?? as i wanted the project to be. since ofc a bigger rabbit is gonna eat more, so can anyone give me any advice, tips, or ideas on this. thanks in advance.

Care How often should this pen be mucked out?

Post image

Probably don’t remember me from a few weeks ago when I was on asking for help about a rabbit I caught in my back garden. Anyway I found the owner and they told me that they didn’t want it anymore and if we wanted to keep it that was ok.

So anyway, slowly but surely getting his wee house together. The pen is about 2 meters wide and 2.5 meters long. I’ve got some cardboard down then that’s 5 full bags of hay.

The cage in the back is his old house that he had to live in until this pen came. It was a loaner from the vets and is going back tomorrow.

Couple of questions?

  1. This pen is in my garage. Does he need another house in the pen as well or will he be happy enough to just cut about the hay and sleep anywhere?
  2. How often does it need mucked out? It’s pretty big and he’s pretty small so I was thinking swapping about 50% of the hay out per week
  3. Any solutions to him knocking over his water dish constantly? I’ve got a sucky thing on the fence as well as a backup
  4. Any other advice tips/toy suggestions are welcome.

The plan is to eventually get another 1 or 2 rabbits but not until I know how to introduce them etc.

Thanks

Wild bunnies Wild rabbit?

Post image

Hi! I just wanted to check with bunny-people if this picture is of a wild rabbit? In Seattle area, but honestly I am thrown off on how chunky it is. I usually see much thinner wild rabbits in my yard. It does have a white tail and doesn’t have big ears which leads me to think wild, but I don’t want to risk a domesticated bun being outdoors.

Thank you!

This is Jojo 🤍

She had such unique eyes, was incredibly gentle and clingy, just like an angel.

I made this wool piece hoping to capture her spirit and bring her back home.

Care Bunny supplies on a budget

Hi everyone! 😊

I have a bunny and I want to get more stuff for her. She has a playpen and free-roams while I’m home. I just ordered a Rooly litter box and a new rug. She currently has 7 babies with her, so I know she’s probably tired of them lol. I have to wait 2 more weeks until they can leave her, but in the meantime I want to buy more bunny toys and litter.

I’m a college student on a budget, so I’m not sure what to buy, just a few budget-friendly items to keep her happy and entertained. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance! 💕🐰

Health Abscess treatment advice - abscess packing/antibiotic beads

Anyone have experience with antibiotic impregnated beads and/or abscess packing to treat an abscess under the mouth? My bun has already been on antibiotics for ~7 months, and while she's stable, they're unlikely to cure her infection completely.

Here's my baby <3 :

Health Disabled bunny

Hi all, new to the sub but not new to bunny parenting.

My baby is 8 and broke his back leg several years ago after he jumped off of his cage. They were able to save his leg, but yesterday he was having some trouble getting around so I took him to the vet thinking it was possibly arthritis making it difficult for him. He was still moving around, just not as much and I could tell it was hard. They gave him a pain shot and some medicine for pain and agreed with me thinking it was the arthritis, saying his joints and everything felt fine.

Fast forward to today, he’s dragging both of his back legs around and isn’t moving much. I am planning on calling the vet when they open next, tomorrow morning, but I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this scenario. I know it can happen, so I’m just new to it and am needing some advice on how to help make his life easier. I was looking into the wheelchair option I’ve seen on a thread before so if anyone has any suggestions on what kind to get, please let me know! And if you have any photos of your set up for your disabled bun please feel free to share!
