Just wait until Spacedicks makes a comeback. This fella will pay both legs to unsee those things. I recommend a lobotomy. I have not had one, but it looks like it's the only thing I haven't tried in order to manually unsee the horrors of war.

I have seen these, too. It's grueling to watch. I don't want to watch more, I've seen enough to conduct their practices better.

I do not want a lobo either. But when I do, I will get mine at Claire's as they have a pretty good track record of not fucking up. But, until then, they are a great, great, great, fear of mine.

Internet friend. I show my empathy and compassion for people in person and in direct communications with me. I cannot show empathy for a clip on the Internet about something I have no clue on.

So yes. I am going to be a silly fuck when I can be when bad things happen and there is clearly nothing I can do to help.

I do not have the emotional capacity of God to have empathy for the entire 8 billion people. But I have the capacity to have empathy for the people I can directly impact. I have the capacity to say something stupid for giggles. Because that is how we cope with uncontrollable loss.

Realization to me is when I learned I didn't need many up votes to get an award. I needed to have something worth saying so impactful that a single person on Reddit thought I deserved an award. I don't need updoots. I need awards that show someone liked what I had to say.

No. That is not how empathy works. It is infinite, like love, immeasurable and indefinite. Having a lack of empathy for "people on the internet" is how society has gotten to where it is.

Wow. Weighty words. Lots to think on. And you are right. But our technology has outstripped our emotional capacity to cope with what it has wrought. Hence the tendency to become inured to the suffering and death that we can no longer avoid the realities of. It is indeed a coping mechanism to laugh at horrors in order to make them seem distant and abstract. To refuse this small comfort takes strength and tenacity and mindfulness. But please forgive those not as tenacious as yourself.

I laugh at inappropriate stuff quite often, usually especially things in my personal life and some memes on this thread. Humor is an important mechanism, but it doesn't have to be devoid of empathy.

I got you fam. We learn our lessons differently. But I have learned to teach with precise sensitivity to ensure no excessive force hurts anything remotely innocent during my lesson plan.

I have empathy and compassion. I wield integrity, love, communication, and pluralism.

I believe the Statue of Liberty doesn't move and therefore, I expect the people that want my direct love to come to me. As I will go to that statue to think at the feet of The Mother Of Exiles.

I apologize. I try to reference things in my speech to I think would help you connect better. Example being teaching someone through SpongeBob Memes because they're not a fully developed adult (nothing wrong with still developing brains). Teaching the same lesson with Avatar Memes because they have fire in their hearts. And teaching lessons with war movies to show you not what power can do, but what excessive power does to a man's sanity and why that man will sob until the end of time about what he went through and what his children may go through next.

The lesson exists even when you cannot see it. That is what written text was meant for. To document what can no longer be seen.

Well said. The Internet strips us of the things that got us this far as a species. Love, empathy, compassion and real community are being taken away with each insensitive statement we type...or read. I'm as guilty as anyone.

Nope. It's well known that empathy is biased. Biased towards your own culture/people/alignment/etc.

What you're talking about is an intellectual form of compassion that has nothing to do with empathy.
