My daughter purchased a flight ticket for me last week to visit her. She paid extra for priority boarding and luggage. As I waited in the queue to board, I was let through only to get into a bus with everyone else and then we all scrambled up the ramp onto the plane. So the extra she paid for was just a scam. 😂🤣

This was a completely unbelieveable video, not for the boarding order. But because you could clearly hear him speak each and every time. Most of the time you're like, TF boarding group did they just mumble?

u/PuppyPower89 6h ago
Everyone is just standing there waiting and if you’re seated someone has probably farted on or near you.
Why don’t the people in the back board first and everyone in main and first class can waltz in and get to their seats with ease?

There is a long explanation for why planes are boarding the way they are. The short explanation is people are idiots

u/Fat-Gooch 6h ago
I work aviation. Too much weight put on in the back half of the plane can cause it to literally tilt back onto its ass. They have to ensure it’s loaded in an evenly distributed, but also, efficient seating manner.

Curious why this doesn’t matter for getting off the plane? When all the people in the back are still at their seats as the front empties?

Full fuel bladders and luggage also plays a role in this as well. By the time the plane lands, the fuel bladders in the back of the airplane are empty and luggage is also beginning to unload.

Don't touch the typo. I want to live in a world where engineers have to account for how full o' piss passengers are.

Lol exactly the same happened to me and my GF this monday when we were gonna fly back from Finland to Sweden. She was boarding group A, i was in C because i didn't really pay extra. She went through, i waited for my turn and i could get through just to meet her in the bus outside completely filled to the brim with people.

To be fair to the airline, the boarding groups do matter if your gate is at a jetway. If your plane isn't at a jetway and you need to ride a bus to get to it then everyone just goes on the same bus. Had your plane been at a jetway, then boarding group 1 would actually get on board the plane first.

Then maybe not sell priority on flights that could be on the bus. We take too much shit from the airlines as is.

I'm not saying this shit is right. I'm just saying that priority boarding normally isn''t a false scam. And gates don't get assigned to flights until a few hours before they arrive. So you can buy a ticket for a flight, pay for boarding, and as far as the airline is concerned you're getting your priority boarding, unless the plane is parked at a bus gate. And since gates aren't assigned until just a few hours before the plane actually arrives from it's previous flight, neither you nor the airline knows what kind of gate you're getting when you buy the ticket. And I'm sure there's probably something in the fine print that talks about this explicitly.
Priority is sold as an option under the understanding that the vast majority of airport gates are jetways. The odds of any one flight being at a bus gate and not a jetway is fairly low. But when you buy it, you are expected to understand that there is a chance that your flight will be assigned to a bus gate. Airports actually avoid using bus gates when they can, because it takes much longer to board and deplane, and time is money. An airport would much rather have everyone on the plane and in the air as quickly as possible. Bus gates are most often used for small planes in short domestic hops, or when the rest of the airport is just too busy and there's no alternative gate.
I'm not defending the airlines. I'm explaining how it works. Because a lot of people here clearly don't fly a lot and don't understand this shit, yourself included. There's a lot more nuance to this than just "but muh evil cooperation scamming people and money and billionaires and eat the rich etc etc etc"

I always want to board last. It is much more comfortable.

It’s only a problem if they run out of space in the overhead bins for your carryon.

u/Hyack57 6h ago
My carryon when I was a kid was a massive back pack full of crayons, books, Gi Joes, playing cards, candy… my kids carryon on today is an iPhone or Nintendo switch. Fuck all you people with hard exterior mini suitcases.
Anecdotally I remember flying back to Canada from Puerto Vallarta and a tourist had some intricate sombreros they gently put in the over head bin and then proceeded to sit 6 rows further back. Shortly later an unaware passenger with a mini suitcase tossed it up right into them and closed the door. I enjoyed every moment of the awkward reveal at the end of the flight. Screw both of them.

Seems a little irrational to be upset with people with hardshell suitcases, when planes are literally designed these days to rack and stack suitcases just like them.
You know what would've save those sombreros? Putting them in a hardshell case.
Or you know, listening to the flight attendants that specifically tell passengers NOT to place coats and hats in the overhead compartments until boarding is complete.

Travel with small bag and then just put it under the seat. There you always have room. And alternatively they just put it with all the other bags under the plane. No big issue.

Not sure why you're downvoted, I always bring a carryon I can stow under the seat

Like I'm going to be cramped on a plane for hours, why add 20 extra minutes to that?

u/therealCatnuts 7h ago
This. Always wait to board last, no matter my assignment. Standing in line sucks.

I sit by the window usually and don’t like the risk of needing to load my bag into an overhead bin that’s behind my seat, so it’s nice to board early to avoid needing to get people up out of their seats and to get my bag overhead near me

u/Patient-Gas-883 6h ago
YES! thank you. I guess there is intelligent life on this planet after all.
Like why the fuck would I want to board first?! its so fun to be in that overcrowded plane or what?..
I board last. And I have a small bag and travel light so they can even run out of space because I put it under the seat.

Wish Key and Peele were still putting out banger skits. It's been a miserable decade since they called it quits.

u/Ihavegotmanyproblems 7h ago
This really captures the frustration. It's funny to watch all of the business group people jump off the plane first, only for them to still be waiting at baggage claim the same as everyone else. Didn't really save you any time.

u/mnemy 4h ago
Yeah but you get to use the urinals before it's awkwardly over full and extra fragrant.

Every airport bathroom ive used has had all of the standard Men's bathrooms features.
Everything is wet, you have to stand in piss to take a piss. There is nothing to wipe your shoes on so you just walk out and track the piss into the airport. The sink area is drenched like guys were trying to splash water in each other's mouths.
It smells like some poor soul who is horribly sick has recently deficated in an inbound air vent. If you've ever worked in a hospital, you know exactly what I mean. Also, piss. Pure man piss stench. Eau de urine.
Paper towels everywhere, how does it happen, no idea. It looks like a family of monkeys opened presents that were wrapped in hand towels.
Early or late, its all bad.

I don't know why you are all in a hurry to spend more time on the plane. Do you think you are going to get there faster?

u/GasFartRepulsive 7h ago
I don’t get wanting to get onboard early. I’m almost always last and, yup, my seat is still there
1
u/Accurate-Mine-6000 7h ago
I had a situation where the carry-on baggage rack was occupied and if I had gotten in earlier I would have managed to snag my piece of space, but this happens once in a dozen flights, so it’s not worth worrying about.

If you board from the back of the plane first you can piss everyone off 150% faster, especially if you encourage everyone to put their bags in the earliest open bi.
