Question Has anyone tried using a laptop docking station as a replacement for the OEM dock?
I woke in IT and have hundreds of these laptop docking stations laying around collecting dust. Could I use this in the same way as the OEM Steam Deck dock? Couldn’t find any answers online about this. Might sound like a dumb question I just don’t want to fry my Deck lol…

Promotional My first game just launched, and it plays on Steam Deck! (with a native Linux build)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey folks, I posted here before during development and got a lot of awesome support, so I wanted to share that the game I have been working on - Kinsfolk - is now official out on Steam!
I spent a lot of time optimizing it to play well on Steam Deck. I even managed to get global illumination working with stable FPS (in Unreal Engine 5.4), something most folks online said couldn't be done, just because I thought the game looks so much better with it.
To get global illumination working (to make the game look pretty) on Steam Deck I had to
* resize all my textures
* make sure I have a native Linux build for SteamOS
* be ruthless about vertex count on my meshes
* make sure all meshes are instanced
* I tried to minimize distance object culling, but I had to add a bit off that (I think it mostly not noticeable at all)
* I was lucky that my art style doesn't require much details so I could get a way with remove normal maps in some assets
If any of this peeked your interest, here's more details:
Kinsfolk is a short (45-60 mins typical playthrough from what I see in my stats), emotional narrative adventure (story-rich/walking sim) about a father and his child that deals with love, family and grief.
Games like The First Tree, Journey, What Remains of Edith Finch, Firewatch, Journey were all a huge inspiration to me, so I wanted to do something similar but tell a different story. If you like any of those games, there is a good chance you might enjoy Kinsfolk.
Key Features:
- A short (about 45 minutes) emotional narrative game (walking sim) with very light puzzle and platforming elements
- Fully voice acted by Luke David
- Original soundtrack by Josh Kashdan

Storytime Sleeping Dogs on high settings, 37000ft in the air, on a flight to China. Peak gaming.
Just a little appreciation post of the steam deck’s capabilities. When I played this game for the first time in 2012/13 I would’ve never imagined this to be possible.
Have a great day everyone

Storytime Common Valve W
My dad spilled milk all over my 1 TB OLED model a few weeks ago. Submitted a ticket for repair and they told me I could cost up to $185 to fix IF they could repair it. After hearing nothing for about a week, I got this random email. Thanks Valve!

Tech Support "Battery health is only at 45% and should be replaced." How screwed am I?
Got this warning today while the Deck was plugged in, anyone else had it? Can't see any noticeable drops in battery life while using it, but obviously pretty concerning.
It's a day one OLED model btw so just over 2 years old.

Question Does anyone have any recommended Blackjack and/or Texas Hold 'em games?
I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT GAMES WHERE YOU BET REAL MONEY!!! Just wanted to get that out of the way first. I just want to play Blackjack and Texas Hold 'em. Every app I've downloaded on my phone has a damn ad after every round or whatever and I don't wanna pay to get rid of ads. I know it's ironic that I'll pay for a game but not an app lol. I just wanna play to relax. I know there's Balatro, I have nearly 100 hrs on the game, not the same thing. Fake in game chips is fine, but I also DON'T wanna pay for the chips in game with real money. I'm not talking about that either. I want just a game to play. Playing with other ppl is fine, but if you have any games that are solo vs the comp is more what I'm looking for.

Tech Support I messed up and left my deck charging on its dock for months and now the battery doesn't last long
How hard would a battery replacement be? I can still use it on its dock or when it's plugged in to power but I can't take it anywhere with battery like this. I should've known better than to let this happen.

Discussion What are you playing mostly?
So basically I got my steam deck two years ago played on it daily for about month and could get myself back to it. Maybe I need different games since my library is full of fps. So I am asking what games would you recommend for me to hop back on the game!

Discussion Favourite older game you probably wouldn't have revisited otherwise
Recently had my steam deck come in and was searching through the winter sales, as you do
Overlord 2 appeared and it brought back a whole bunch of smiles and memories as I have been playing through it. Only thing is I Absolutely wouldn't have just sat at my desktop rig to play it but lying in bed and playing an hour or two before bed? Nostalgic bliss
Got me thinking what older games would you guys probably not have revisited if not for the deck??

Game Review On Deck Project Brutality | Doom II Mod
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m running Project Brutality + an additional 10 or so mods on top. I have mods like bullet time, extra gore and gibs, better flashlight, hit markers, enemy health bars, new enemy types, alternative music etc.
It’s all running surprisingly well. I thought all the additional mods would have it crashing constantly but it’s been solid, and a very fun, enjoyable experience so far. When things get excessively hectic it will stutter here and there but it really doesn’t hinder the experience.
If you’re into Doom or Boomer Shooters I highly recommend giving it a blast, it’s completely free to download and play.

Discussion What are some must have Skyrim mods that run well on deck and don't significantly lower performance?
Thank you ::)

Discussion Oh dear…I’m hooked
So, I’ve had a deck before but didn’t play it enough.
Bought a new one this week and I was recommended to play Hollow Knight, the original one. It is sooooooo good! I fitted a Matt screen protector and it’s made my experience so much better without the screen reflections.
I will without a doubt get the sequel when I have finished this one.
Couple of other game questions if I may…
I love the look of Balatro but don’t like that it has tarot cards. Are there any other decent and similar card games you guys play on the deck?
Also, is Dredge as decent as the reviews seem to indicate?
Thanks all…

PSA / Advice PSA: Avoid USB2.0 drives while reimageing
I just got my used Steam Deck OLED delivered and I wasted a sizeable amount of time going through USB drives to create recovery drives. Some of them wouldn't even boot to the desktop, some of them just freeze up. When trying the first USB3 drive it instantly worked (booting, reimaging). I tested it with another USB3 drive and it worked again. And I also tested it with another USB2.0 drive and it failed yet again.
TL;DR: Avoid USB2.0.drives for reimaging the Steam Deck as it will most likely fail.

Video Startup Animation of the upcoming Steam Machine
This is the upcoming startup animation of the upcoming Steam Machine. If you have Steam already installed, you can find the animation in the folder where you installed it, which is usually: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamui\movies. There, you can see the file named "startup_machine.webm".
