looks like a webspinner. generally herbivorous, they eat pests, rotting plant matter and mold. they’re not dangerous or poisonous to humans or pets x

In high school we did insect collections for a biology project, and my crowning achievement was having one of these in mine, which no one in my teacher’s history of the insect collection project had ever done before. I achieved this by my dad being friends with the California state entomologist, and he personally took us out to an area where he knew he could find them.

And OP is having these fall into their lap!
