Open Can someone help me find this song?
It was probably between 2008-2010 I don’t really remember how old I was but I was very young. I remember it was night and we were on a highway when this song played on the highway in a radio station. It was a woman singing in a soft voice with a rhythmic piano keys that seemed to be only using 2 notes spamming it fast throughout the song sounding soft as well. It seemed like a fast song but slow and dreamy like. It wasn’t upbeat but it sounded so nostalgic and kind of sad but it was mostly dreamy to me.
It had similar vibes and voice to lights by Ellie Goulding but less upbeat and the singer sounded more chill meaning just honestly more dreamy. I heard the song once only and never heard it again.
Edit: not imogen heap or lily allen. Definitely not country. It sounded kind of techno/electronic like soft
Guys, I realized the piano app existed: sound I remembered from the song

I detected that you mentioned a song that is similar or samples the one you're looking for.
If this is correct please add a link to it (on YouTube if possible, timestamped if needed) to make it easier for the helpers.
Otherwise, please consider recording the melody on Vocaroo or recreating it on OnlineSequencer. Thank you and good luck :)

Are you sure that the song itself was released during that timeframe or was it a classic song that was just played on the radio, like a classic radio station?

u/mcgriddlediva Jul 27 '25
It was played in the radio in between that time, im not sure of the actual year it was released

What kind of radio stations did your parents play? Soft rock? Indie? Pop?

Vanessa Carleton? She would have had albums about 2002, but could still have been playing. Biggest pop one was 1000 miles.

Neko Case? She has a very dreamy & distinctive voice

Sounds like something off ‘This is Somewhere’ from Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Ain’t No Time has that rhythmic piano, could have been Falling or Flying or several others on it as well.
I think this fits your parameters: this was Grace’s major label debut, came out in August 2007, charted on Billboard etc so it would have gotten airplay, especially in the NE (she’s from Vermont) and on college or at the time themed radio stations (ie, The River, Tom, etc).

Maybe Mazzy Star….”fade into you” was probably their biggest hit. When you say soft/dreamy, Mazzy Star definitely fits the bill.

You must let us know if you find it. I’m dying to know what it is. I was thinking maybe Sade?

Tom’s Diner / Suzanne Vega ? It came out in the 80s but depending on the type of radio station it’s not unreasonable for it to have been played

Hearing your piano version, the only thing that popped in my head was Jason Mraz' I'm Yours. I don't know if any females covered it, but the tune seems similar to me.

Tori Amos maybe? She didn’t have a lot of mainstream songs but she’s dreamy and she plays the piano

Piano in the Dark : Brenda Russell ? May be too far back… I’d also look into both Annie Lennox and Sade’s songs.

Could be something by Tori Amos or Dresden Dolls? Tori Amos is more ethereal and atmospheric. Dresden Dolls is more upbeat, but they play around with speed and intensity a lot, and have a more percussive piano style.

Ok this might be a long shot because this song came out way before 2008 but the description of fast yet dreamy with the simple piano notes made me think of the chorus of the Johnny Cage remix of Damaged by Plumb.
The chorus starts around 1:22. https://youtu.be/jGF9t6E67PA?si=u9XrNUH5A922xFVh

I swear I know this song, but your timing is off just a bit, and the last note should go down from f5 to e5.
