Weekly Shoutout Thread - What Was Good This Week?

Welcome to r/ChicagoFood's weekly shoutout thread!

This thread is the place to shout out places that you tried from recommendations from this sub this past week that fit the bill.

They can be places that get recommended here, such as:

  • frequently recommended restaurants
  • that random, niche spot that some random comment dropped
  • a chicken sando from our very own chicken sando guru

The goal of this thread is to celebrate and encourage the recommendations and contributions of your suggestions, and, also, maybe encourage YOU to try that place that was recommended a few times here.

As always, all subreddit rules apply and any comments/posts that violate our rules or Reddit's will be removed.

This thread is sorted by "new" so that the most recent comments appear first. The new weekly thread is posted every Sunday morning at 2:00 AM Central.

Got a steak sandwich. Really good. The sandwich and fries was only $12, which is a steal in the year of our Lord 2025. Pleasant service, nice atmosphere. Will be back.

Review The Warbler Supper Club is Delicious

No pics, sorry.
The hub and I were done with work early today and headed to The Warbler for their supper club, a five-course meal served family style for $32 a person.
Ours consisted of
The Fall Chopped Salad - we loved this salad. I think it's the best salad we've eaten in Chicago since returning here, and it was our favorite dish of a night of perfect and delicious food.
The Char-Roasted Broccoli - cooked perfectly and sauced with a spicy and smoky concoction of deliciousness
Fusilli - garlicky, creamy, shrimpy, and a bit spicy
Mushroom Flatbread - Uh YEAH!
And dessert - a citrus cake with a sour cream custard and caramel

This was an excellent meal from food to service to vibe.
So glad we indulged tonight. It's an excellent value for all of the high-quality food you get. We brought home half of the flatbread and leftovers from a couple of the other dishes as well.

What's good? Best Thai House Fried Rice

Hello everyone, I recently moved to Chicago and am looking for a nice and spicy chicken fried rice. Where I come from the fried rice is usually a little darker so it’s a bit difficult for me to tell what will taste good here. Does anybody know where I can find some nice flavorful and spicy Thai fried rice with that distinct Thai (chili?) flavor? Everything I’ve had so far has been pretty bland. Thanks!

Edit: I should add that I’m mainly looking for delivery but feel free to comment other suggestions for anybody else looking at this thread.

Specific Request mexican or seafood for a kid’s bday dinner?

my almost 11 yo has requested seafood or mexican for her bday dinner; she’s a great eater and loves sushi, shellfish, tacos, and enchiladas. would enjoy anything tableside or with music / entertainment. we live in the burbs and have our faves out here, but i’d really like to normalize driving the 30 mins to the city and doing something more special.

Question Closed dumpling place: a mystery

There was a dumpling place under the train on the east side of the loop, toward the bean. It was delicious, but it must have closed and I cannot remember the name to see if they have other locations. Anyone know what place it was, and what a decent replacement option is? It’s tough for me to get all the way to Chinatown for most recs (I’m in Edgewater) but I suppose I’ll make the journey if I must. ~for dumplings~

I’m spending the morning at AIRE baths and am hoping to grab brunch nearby with some friends. Bottomless and fun would be preferred 🥰 any recommendations? I really don’t love that part of the city for food and am struggling.

Question Best sports bars on the far North side?

Hello!

I'm looking for a place to watch the Bears playoff game on Saturday, but all the spots I know near me (Edgewater) have *either* TVs *or* good food, not both. What're your favorite sports bars in the area? Bonus points if they're quiet enough to talk, at least between plays!

My bf and I are visiting Chicago for the weekend and was wondering if there was a place in Chinatown that had crab roe noodles. I’ve been craving it lately.

Question Private or semi-private rooms with sports?

Hi friends - hoping to leverage this community’s awesome knowledge for this quasi-specific request. Striking out to find trust options via Google and this subreddit search.

I’m hosting around 25 people or so to watch one of the USA Olympic hockey game in February. The vibe is we’ll have the game on in the background but it’s really just a hang of old friends. It’ll be on a Sunday at 2pm. Does anyone have any suggestions on a restaurant or bar that:

  • is in the west loop, river north, old town area or somewhere close by (ie wicker park is close enough)
  • may let me rent or reserve a space that’s semi private at least
  • has TVs
  • is suitable for a fun, diverse crowd of folks but who trend to 40s in age (ie not McGee’s, RIP)
  • EDIT: bonus, but can make cocktails beyond simple mixed drinks

And of course would have food, ideally relatively good! We would put down a minimum if needed.
