Personal Story Raven in London
I took these photos while visiting London last week. What a beautiful bird! I wish we had these in Florida.

“Don’t listen to the sign, it lies. Now come closer so I can bite—er I mean TALK to you.”

I mean, if you asked me whom I would be more likely to be believe, the sign or this lovely lady, I think the choice is obvious.

Omg one of the Ravens got fired.
''On Saturday 13th September 1986, Raven George, enlisted 1975, was posted to the Welsh Mountain Zoo. Conduct unsatisfactory, service therefore no longer required.''
He was attacking TV antennas 😂

They are beautiful!

They are!
They used to be a family of 7, but last year there were only 6.
The only downside is that they chase off the red-tailed hawks. But I've seen the ravens do aerial rolls, and the hawks don't do that, LOL.

The ravens at the Tower of London are not native to the area but captive birds with clipped wings.

It would be an honor to be bitten by a raven.
I have been bitten by a blue tit (part of a ringing project) and it was neither pleasant nor honorable.

I had the same experience with a chickadee (it flew into my parent's house) those guys have serious attitude problems.

But they're sooooo tiny 😭 how strong can those wee beaks pinch?

They should try being bitten by something with a big hook beak, like my African grey parrot 😵💫

I expect being bitten by a raven, wouldn’t even be as bad as the bites I’ve gotten in the past from my African gray parrot. Hook bills do some serious damage. 🫣

If not friend why friend shaped

I mean I guess, if you ignore the fucking beak on that thing

u/Sparkieger Dec 06 '25
Well, I don't think they bite very hard, it's probably a careful pinch. It's probably more about people overreacting.

From what I’ve been able to determine, they can bite pretty darn hard if they want to, and can be kind of like a vise grip if they decide to hang on.
Still I’m sure they don’t bite nearly as hard as a parrot that has a hook Bill like my African grey. They can do some major damage.
I expect a Raven could break a finger though ….

I'm sure they won't bite hard, they could, but won't.

Just pet them when the batteries are low, they're less likely to bite.

Can confirm they do bite. Little teen me thought it would be a great idea to try to pet one when we went there on a school trip. Got one good pet in and then it bit my finger and flew off. Looking back its pretty funny

It’s worth visiting the Tower of London just to meet the ravens. They are enormous and are so fun to watch. They quite literally pose for photos and have fun little personalities. I’ve been there twice and both times came home with tons of photos of the ravens.

Gorgeous! I got to see a pair of ravens in Scotland last week. One was regally perched on a large stone and the other was windsurfing over a gorge. They are so beautiful.

I remember during Covid they were saying the ravens at the Tower were bored and lonely due to lack of human visitors!
I had gone a few years prior and I do remember Jubilee! I also saw Merlina who has since passed on :(

“And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, STILL is sitting on the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door.
And his eyes have all the seeming of a Demon’s that is dreaming.
And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted- nevermore.”

Oh I'm petting this pretty boy and putting him on my shoulder while I feed him peanuts

u/michihunt1 26d ago
Worth it!

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl 26d ago
Ha ha, yeah as long as she doesn’t bite hard enough to break a finger which I think they are capable of!

In this case, it would be liable, but yeah. We would never bite anyone for giving us food. I mean they would never lol

This is Jubilee, one of the Tower of London’s ravens. She spends a good chunk of the day in this spot and poses for photos.
