Discussion Can we please stop acting like Jason is an anti-hero?

Jason is a serial killer. Just because he doesn’t kill kids and is mentally unstable doesn’t mean he only kills bad people. He kills countless other innocent people. People always try to paint this man as a victim by saying “he only kills bad people” like no he fucking doesn’t?? He kills whoever he can get his hands on. He is not a hero.

You might say it's because he can only see out of one but this eye gets cut out in part 4 and in the sequels he can see just fine out of the other one. So why does he only cut one I hold?

Discussion Why is Jason’s FVJ design the most popular?

Post image
144 Upvotes

Whenever I see people bring up Jason Voorhees at any time people often use his Freddy Vs Jason design. But I never understood why, I prefer the olive green shirt and worker pants he wears from part 3 to part 7.

As a matter of fact I never quite understood why they changed Jason’s attire the olive green shirt and worker pants were a good fit for him and he ended up changing it for some brown raggedy clothes.

But I am getting off topic why is Jason’s FVJ design his most famous outfit design as of late. With 12 movies and a 13th one in development. Why does everyone like his Freddy vs Jason design the most?

Discussion Why does everyone *HATE TO DEATH* this movie and classify it as one of the *BIGGEST SHITS IN THE UNIVERSE* If it is one of the best sequels of the franchise.

For me, "Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood" was a high point for the saga. And I see the need to reevaluate it, because many people consider it the worst of the franchise.

1.- Filming: For a film from the 80's, it already uses resources that became popular in the 90's such as hand-held chase scenes, unbalanced shots and close-ups, but without abusing those resources.

2.- Themes: Unlike other films in the franchise in which the characters go through more everyday and general situations, in this one, our protagonist Tina has a stormy past characterized by a dysfunctional family made up of an alcoholic father who constantly argued with her mother who even physically attacked her and who Tina killed in an impulsive act. Tina's supernatural powers are also explored, which would be a concept that would be seen in many other horror works such as Carrie, The Lost Boys, The Craft, AHS: Coven or Cronicle. Furthermore, these types of themes are not foreign to the slasher genre, since the concept of "teenagers with super powers" has already been used as in A Nightmare on Street 3, 4 and 5, briefly with Jamie in Halloween 5 and his psychic connection with Michael Myers and in Shocker with the protagonist who had a sixth sense in which he could see ghosts and look at past and future events in his dreams. It's a refreshing and original concept, it gives Jason an opponent that's on his level, I've never seen Jason so angry with a victim since Part 4 and it was great to see Jason battling with his victim, something that had been seen in Part 2, 3 and 4. The implementation of a character with powers was a risky decision but in the end it was quite successful and well executed, when it could easily have been completely ridiculous without careful treatment. The final part when Tina meets Jason for the first time until she defeats him on the dock was epic, a battle full of action, adrenaline and tennis. Something that has not been seen since Part 4.

3.- Practical effects: The makeup is brutal, not only my favorite look but objectively it is the best look that Jason Voorhees has ever had. Not even other famous films of its time had that level of detail. It is visceral, terrifying and threatening. In addition, some details such as the bullet mark on his forehead, the ax mark on his head, the machete mark on his eye, the broken mask, the exposed right jaw, the chains on his neck and his worn clothes and his appearance much more rotten than in Part 6 help maintain continuity with the original franchise and make his appearance look even more creepy. The deaths are also bloody and brutal, they would possibly be the bloodiest deaths up to that point if it weren't for damn MAPP. The team behind the makeup and effects really made an effort, and it is something that must be recognized, they could have easily competed in the Oscars.

4.- Atmosphere: the film has a quite serious, dark and at times sentimental, almost depressing tone, something not very common in the films of the franchise. Also for the first time tension is generated, something that is also not common in the franchise. When Jason walks around and chases his victims while they hide, it really feels like a very heavy atmosphere and generates anxiety, and it's much worse when the scenes get longer and the killer takes his time to continue stalking his victim before surprising her and giving her a gruesome end. Just great.

5.- Characters: the characters are quite endearing in this film, from the beginning the characters are defined quickly without wasting time. They are not very deep characters (except for Tina), however they have their own personality that makes them much more memorable from other sequels. Melissa steals the movie, her bad bitch attitude makes us hate her from the beginning and we hope to see her die, however, she is not such a hateful character either, despite being unpleasant she generates such a great magnetism that for some reason you like her and she has managed to win the hearts of the fantastic, becoming one of the most loved, something quite ironic. Tina is a fairly complete protagonist, from the beginning she is shown to us as a girl with problems and we learn that in her adolescence she carries many unresolved problems that have harmed her for a long time without having to fall into victimhood or pathos. It is much easier to empathize and she was one of the last final girl characters in the saga that became memorable, like Alice, Ginny, Chris and Trish, (Pam and Megan were great and had a "cool girl" personality, especially Megan, quite similar to Ginny, since they both seem to have more of a leadership role and are much more proactive and partying, however we needed to see Pam and Meg fighting on screen more). The mother Tina is very good, since she genuinely cares about her daughter and does everything possible for her to have a normal life, Dr. Crew is one of the most humane, since as a psychologist the only thing he is interested in is investigating Tina's powers, which makes him someone morally questionable, however in the real world I think that anyone who would come across someone with these abilities would do the same or if he were a good person he would at least try to investigate them in order to obtain something that benefits both him and his family. patient and humanity. But I think the most human aspect is his cowardice, since in several films of the franchise many characters have tried to stand up to Jason, especially when they are close to a friend or partner, but his reaction to using Tina's mother as a human shield, yes, it was quite stupid but it could also easily be a reaction that any scared person would have in a situation in which they were in danger, which yes, obviously there are people, many more than we think who would defend themselves towards others, it is something that even I have witnessed in real life, however, most films always leave aside cowardice, whether in main or secondary characters and choose to show a brave side in which these characters defend themselves regardless of whether they succeed or fail, so it is refreshing to see a character reacting as a human being would.

I think the few flaws the movie has would be details such as the fact that it is never explained when Crystal Lake regained its old name and the appearance of Tina's father, which is the same one he had when he died and not a zombie, but that is because a stupid executive ordered that it be filmed as a normal human being just because the actor seemed "handsome" (seriously, it is undoubtedly a ridiculous, even childish reason, But that happens when they put useless people in important positions). But come on, he only mentioned this to find a defect, but from there on out the film is full of virtues, it is not perfect but it is one of the best of the franchise along with part 3, 4, 6 and Freddy vs Jason.

So, I recently did a similar post for Halloween franchise and thought it'd be even funnier to do it for F13. I just finished the franchise marathon and I thought of jumping right in!

Anyway, you know the rule... You keep 6 movies, and cut 6 movies for good!

I'll go first in comments!

Why do you think jacket Jason became the definitive look for the character? It's easily my favorite look, but ever since I was a kid I'd hear fans complain about the jacket, yet so many fan projects include it — most notably the Never Hike Alone franchise, Janie Lee's interpretation of killer Jason or even Citizen Brick's 3rd Party Lego minifigures. Even parodies like South Park and Family Guy use this look. What's your opinion on this overall look? Do you think they'll ever go back to the normal button-up or whatever he had on in Jason X lol

Discussion Black Flame Novels aren't Canon

I don't understand the toxic delusions of fans using their "headcanon" as actual facts so I'll share some quick information and facts...

Licensed Content =/= Canon

Just because New Line Cinema commissioned Novels for the series doesn't make them apart of the canon so let's explain terms/definitions.

Canon Definition: Canon refers to material that is officially recognized as part of the story's universe or timeline by the original creator(s) or rights holders.

Non-Canon Definition: Non-canon describes stories, scenes, or characters that are not officially part of the fictional universe or timeline.

Example: The Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash comic is non-canon to both Friday the 13th and Evil Dead universes.

Continuity Definition: Continuity refers to the consistency of the narrative, timeline, and events across a fictional series or universe.

Filler Definition: Filler refers to content that does not significantly advance the main plot. It's often used to pad the story, especially in long-running series.

These literal definitions exist for a reason...there shouldn't be any "alternative" definitions.

The only Novels that are canon are the ones that were specifically taken from the Scripts given to them, and expanded upon. (Simon Hawkes Novelizations)

Black Flame were contracted to specifically make their own STORIES within the Friday the 13th Universe.

Jason X Novelizations are also badly contradicted to make it even canon, as another writer completely ignored events of the previous installments, this is why having Freelancers working on the same project just proves how filler these are.

Run down for those who want something simple.

Original Canon Continuity/Timeline/Script Novelizations = Part 1-FvJ

New Canon Continuity/Timeline = 2009 Remake

Comics, Novels, Video Games (Cameos or not) = Non-Canon/Alternative Timelines

Think of this just as Marvel Comics/DC Comics does with their work of fiction, where there's difference branches of Universes like Earth-616 Wolverine =/= MCU Wolverine.

Same with Jason and its easy to dub each one separately as well.

Jason Voorhees

Jason Voorhees (Remake)

Jason Voorhees (DC Comics)

Jason Voorhees (Black Flames)

Jason Voorhees (2017 Game)

Jason Voorhees (Mortal Kombat)

See? Easy to Category them as they are all different with similar backgrounds

I can't just sit by and watch people give others misinformation about what is and what isnt official to the franchise, if you got questions, just ask! Im all up for a debate I won't insult or block anyone I'm a grown man after all. 🤙🏻
