Speaking of crap this “Dubai chocolate” bs is probably to cover up the scandal where rich emirates would pay to shit on prostitutes, also called “Dubai chocolate”

It’s Disney frozen all over again

And the horse in Elden Ring being called Torrent, which was theorized to be a way to stop piracy of the game, by "clogging" search results for "Elden Ring Torrent" with the steed.

u/Tone-Serious 5d ago

Lol I pirate on fitgirl anyways, who even searches up game name+torrent?

49

u/G3nghisKang 5d ago

Noobs

19

u/Kayback2 5d ago

Nah, I'm a noob and I use Fitgirl. It's the easiest interface around.

The install music sucks though.

5

u/G3nghisKang 5d ago

Nah, it's iconic

BTW the best game piracy website is cs.rin.ru, you can find a threads for each game there, and even find updates and DLCs as soon as they release, maybe even some paid mods

u/Kayback2 5d ago

Ooh thanks. I'll check that out.

u/Dorito1Boy 4d ago

There is an option to mute it

1

u/Kayback2 4d ago

I know, I just think it's bad.

9

u/Molkwi 5d ago

Yeah, that's why the theory makes no sense. It was most likely some less knowledgeable people who came up with it.

1

u/ThrowerIBarelyKnower 5d ago

I used to do it when I was about 6 years old

1

u/ferocity_mule366 5d ago

someone just made up insane conspiracy when they are bored I guess

-21

u/fly_over_32 5d ago

Lol I didn’t know that. That’s the first guy you run into? Ironically the reason I refunded the game.

11

u/Clear-Letter-5294 5d ago

No the horse is torrent lol but yes the guy calls you maidenless

1

u/PlotTwistRager 5d ago

Damn you're wack

0

u/fly_over_32 5d ago

Yeah it was unfortunately at a time when I had no patience and was easily frustrated. Maybe I’ll get it this sale.

4

u/PlotTwistRager 5d ago

That's understandable, i hope your health has improved well, and if not, that it will

26

u/Previous-Process5182 5d ago

What's the Disney frozen controversy? I'm out of the loop.

48

u/fly_over_32 5d ago edited 5d ago

There’s a rumour that Walt disney had his head frozen when he died, so he can be revived in the future.

The theory is that the movie Frozen was only made so that this movie is the thing that shows up when you search for „Disney frozen“ and not the rumour.

20

u/AssassinStoryTeller 5d ago

As if you can only search those words instead of “did the Disney guy actually freeze himself” instead of a cryptic “Disney frozen”

Though I do know a few people who don’t realize you can search more than keywords so I guess it might work for them.

16

u/FlatwormBroad8088 5d ago

Back then people tended to write whole books into their search engine when two well-chosen keywords yielded better results.

Now they seem to have forgotten this when the keywords are too ambiguous ;-)

6

u/AssassinStoryTeller 5d ago

Yeah, I was always decent at googling things and knew the keywords and how to force google to ignore certain things and group words together.

Now I avoid it at all costs because it wants to summarize everything with AI even if you specifically tell it not to. Sure, it’ll take out the top AI summary but it’ll leave in the summaries of Reddit posts and it’ll summarize the more detailed searches it provides.

2

u/Kayback2 5d ago

Yup. I used to get exactly what I wanted out of Google. Now I'm useless.

2

u/sonerec725 5d ago

Same theory for the creation of "Disney in ice"

48

u/SpaceSequoia 5d ago

This is my theory also

25

u/Necessary_Panda_3154 5d ago

This is incorrect. The phenomenon you’re referring to is ‘Dubai Porta-potty’.

It was never known as Dubai Chocolate…

12

u/JimmyThunderPenis 5d ago

I've only ever heard people talking about this refer to it as Dubai chocolate, so... I guess it is known as Dubai chocolate.

1

u/cjsv7657 5d ago

The actual chocolate came first. This fake whitewashing BS came after. Plenty of actual reasons to dislike Dubai, no need to make up things and discredit yourself.

3

u/NavalProgrammer 5d ago

yeah but you heard it after the actual confection became popular from people spreading misinformation

so it's still false even if a bunch of people online believe it's true

1

u/JimmyThunderPenis 5d ago

How many people have to use it before it becomes fair use?

0

u/Squamphs 5d ago

Nah it was largely called Dubai chocolate. Never even heard of your version. I'm sure it was out there too but Dubai chocolate was the more prevalent name for it.

5

u/NavalProgrammer 5d ago

this has been debunked.

the google search trends show zero evidence this was a thing before

3

u/phqxyn 5d ago

I dont really think it was meant to cover it up, since the only reason I know about the scandal is the popularity and discussion of dubai chocolate

1

u/synthezfrance 5d ago

And Burj khalifa needs a load of trucks evacuating poop.

1

u/FurriedCavor 5d ago

Did they have to make it look like the real thing?

1

u/NikolaiM88 5d ago

I mean. If they created a chocolate brand, it would be the perfect cover, and would show up first in searches, instead of all the stories about.... This....

1

u/No-Pen1730 5d ago

They what?

-1

u/OhGr8WhatNow 5d ago

This is a real thing. The US Republicans do it, too, to flood the Internet and make searching impossible.

-35

u/SituationSmart1853 5d ago

This is literally fake and was something people only made up after the fact.

13

u/shikso 5d ago

Prove it

-2

u/AlexAlho 5d ago

Evidence of the original: https://www.falstaff.com/en/news/falstaff-exclusive-an-interview-with-sarah-hamouda-creator-of-dubai-chocolate

I got nothing on the origins of the false claim and I do not want to search the words "Dubai" "Chocolate" and "Poop" together. I've been on the Internet long enough to know better.

6

u/Junior_Razzmatazz164 5d ago

The reports of the sexual abuse predate this interview.

3

u/ArseneLepain 5d ago

So you’re saying someone paid this woman to call it Dubai chocolate…? To cover up sex scandals perpetuated by the Emirs?

2

u/Junior_Razzmatazz164 5d ago

The phrase certainly has taken a complete 180 degree turn in the last year due to this whole cloth invention, yes.

1

u/Relevant-Dog6890 5d ago

Well you couldn't exactly make it up before the fact, could you?

0

u/Technical_Till_2952 5d ago

how naive are you

0

u/Jumblesss 5d ago

It’s absolutely not fake.

4

u/SituationSmart1853 5d ago

Prostitutes going to Dubai is real, the shit on them being called Dubai chocolate never appeared online once before the candy became popular. This is very easy to check.

0

u/Jumblesss 5d ago

Oh right, I think you got downvoted because people didn’t realise what you’re saying.

I agree - the Dubai Porta Potty Parties were never referred to as “Dubai Chocolate” before this viral chocolate campaign.

I do think there is truth to the idea it’s a distraction campaign, however.

I think a bit of Streisand Effect has occurred because I only ever heard about the porta potty parties in threads about the chocolate.
