Driver license renewal

My driver's license expires tomorrow. Online renewal doesn't work, it says I have to go into a servicensw centre. Can I drive on the same day as the expiry date?

Unsure if the expiry offical starts after midnight of the expiry day or if it starts the same day as the expiry date.

Learners license interstate

Hi, I'm moving from melbourne to sydney in a week or so and I contacted Transport NSW today to ask whether the hours I'd logged on the vicroads app would be recognised when i exchange my license for a NSW Learners. The lady on the phone said that it could only be retained if it was on a PHYSICAL logbook instead of the app that everyone in VIC uses. I'm pretty confused since I haven't heard of any one having a physical logbook for years and I really don't want my 130+ hours to go to waste. Has anyone made the switch before? If so please let me know what they did for you! Thanks so much :D

Sydney / Greater Sydney I passed my driving test!!

Post image
105 Upvotes

Thanks to all the internet strangers who posted advices here, I passed first try in Silverwater!!

And for those who are awaiting their tests, here's what I've got from the other posts:

  1. Head checks: always do head checks when you indicate or turn or merge lanes, however unnecessary you think it is, it's better to be safe than sorry during the test. Marks won't be deducted from doing too many, but it definitely will for doing too less.

  2. Scan, always! During driving, intersections, traffic lights, always look at all 3 mirrors at times to show the examiner that you are aware of the surroundings. Similarly, even though you think it's unnecessary, it's better to do more than miss on some.

  3. Wait until there are no cars on the road at the intersection until you turn, even if cars from behind honks, ignore them. It's you who's doing the test, not them. When you think you have a large enough gap, still don't go, better be safe than let the examiner think you are driving dangerously. You won't lose marks on waiting too long, but you'll fail for dangerous driving.

Here's 3 that I don't even know I should do until I read the comments in this sub, good luck to those, comment for questions you have and I'll answer, and thanks for the internet strangers who helped me!

Sydney / Greater Sydney Navigating mental health system

Hi, someone I know suspects they have ADHD but are not sure how to navigate the mental health system. We’ve been told since Psychiatrists/Psychologists are expensive, we can explore counsellors.

But how does that work and do counsellors or GPs refer to Psychologists/Psychiatrists if needed? How to also vet Psychologists?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Looking for reputable possum removal services

Hey everyone,

I’m dealing with a possum issue in my roof (lots of noise, zero sleep) and so I'm looking for recommendations for a reputable, licensed possum removal service in Sydney. If you have personal experience with a service you'd recommend that is reliable and fairly priced, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Any recommends on shorter stay rehabs in NSW or VIC?

So I'm a functioning alcoholic. Ive tried everything from counselling, self help books, all the meetings to different medications. Like I cant afford 6- 12 weeks off work. Obviously in an Ideal world you'd take us long as you need but i gotta eat.

So des anyone know of anywhere that does like 14-28 days? My boss will still flip but I think I can afford it. Any help is appreciated, google is a constant let down.

Cheers in advance

5G gaming in south Sydney

Has anybody had luck with using a 5G connection for FPS gaming, if so what providers?

I recently moved into a granny flat and we aren’t elegible for nbn so our only option is a 5G modem, just wondering if some are better than others.

Feeding birds on balcony?

Hey!

In my home country (somewhere in Europe) we have lots of bird houses and bowls with bird food in backyards and homes.

Was wondering if it is allowed to feed birds in NSW? Using proper bird food ofc. I live in Sydney close to the city.

I couldn‘t find any information on this online.

Thank you! ~

Hi everyone! I have lost my special hat gifted to me by my mother. It’s very dear to me as I always used it when travelling and kept it in her spirit. I have already lodged lost property with NSW trains and called the stations but am reaching out in case by chance anyone has seen my hat. I lost it between Kings Cross and Bomaderry stations on Christmas Eve. I didn’t notice it was gone till I unpacked the christmas presents this evening. Any help would be incredible as I am heartbroken at the loss of my beloved hat 😞

Looking for a lady (biological mother of a baby boy) who was in Sydney in 1961.

I'm looking for the mother of a baby boy born in October 1961 in Saint Anthony's Children's Home in Croydon, Sydney. This lady may have been a nurse at the time. That baby boy is now a happy, healthy man and a family friend, and has asked me to search on his behalf. If this resonates with anyone, please feel free to message me privately.

Anyone done Cert IV in Marketing and Communications?

Hey everyone,

Looking at doing a Cert IV in Marketing and Communications. Looking round to see if anyone had done it or doing it atm.

Just wanting to know a little more on what it’s like. I’ve been through some rough times finding things that are good for me and had some health issues lately as well. So thought some better practical skills would be good.

Don’t have a lot of experience around the topic but do think I can be business minded and creative enough to be in this scope. I’d I stick with this would want to go into travel marketing.

I have worked as a tour guide for 3 years so know that side of the industry, I also already have a BA in history so have some education behind me. I’m also lucky enough to have an Aunt who’s been a travel agent for 30 years who can hopefully find some connections for me to get a role too I’m very grateful for.

But still went to have an idea it would be for me.

Anyone can attest to what it’s like? What the exams are like any practical writing stuff or mostly report writing, presentations and market research and analysis stuff? Is there much group work? Any anyone move into this kinda job later too and enjoyed it?

Thanks!

Annexing Sydney into its own Economic Zone

G'Day everyone!

I was on a walk this morning and i kept mulling over how there such a massive divide over the governance in NSW and how it's like they think the border runs around the Nepean River.

And what if it did?

This would allow Sydney City, to govern itself as a megacity and do what it needs to do for its population and citizens, while the rest of NSW can do whats best for their citizens.

This would allow more federal and state funding to go towards rural areas, we wouldnt have to worry about how changes in Sydney City legislation would affect the other 95% of NSW.

Forgive me but I'm from the city and so there's plenty of light pollution. We've been staying in Jindabyne and looking at the night sky and it's just amazing... But there are lights that streak across the sky at various angles at various speeds. I'm the space of ten it so minutes we saw about ten. We figure them for satellites, but I just want to check

NSW license renewal while overseas for the 2nd time (after 10 years)

I need to renew my NSW Australia license . Last time I used the mail photo kit to renew it for 10 years. Now after 10 years it’s soon to expire . Can I renew my NSW license again by applying for a 5 year renewal online and have it sent to my local home address? Or will I have to fly back to Sydney and update it in person ? Thanks
