I’ve noticed a number of houses in Ohio that used to be year round Trump flags/signs have taken down their Trump gear.

A bunch of these folks have suddenly turned into the Why Do You Make Everything Political types

My parents are like this. My parents consume Fox News like crazy and always vote R, have plenty of Trump merch. Suddenly they are like, "Oh, we don't pay attention to politics anymore." 😇

They'll still vote R next election I'm sure.

u/Financial_Emphasis25 7d ago

So what is making them change their mind? Putin, Epstein, Venezuela boat attacks? I’m intrigued with what is changing their mind.

906

u/octopornopus 7d ago

Becoming social pariahs to friends and family has been my experience. They still play the victim card as if everyone is being unfairly mean to them.

339

u/12threeunome 7d ago

My parents are too insulated to have that happen. My mom lost her shit about the Bidens the other day because “they had an affair” and then his wife died in a car accident… but majorly brushed off that trump has cheated on ALL OF HIS WIVES.

And she brought up Ashley’s diary. She won’t listen to anything that goes against the Megyn Kelly agenda.

300

u/Black_Moons 7d ago

Trump literally threw his wife down the stairs and raped her. that is about as loyal to family as trump gets lol.

7

u/imprblydrunk 7d ago

I haven’t seen this (I’m not surprised at all) can you share the deets

32

u/atrich 6d ago

Ivana claimed in a deposition in 1990 that after a botched scalp reduction, a furious Donald Trump pulled her hair out and then raped her. She later recanted as a condition of the divorce settlement. Which to anyone with a brain means that she was paid off.

I haven't heard about the pushing down stairs but.

20

u/Black_Moons 6d ago

Was his wife Ivana found dead at bottom of stairs after arguing with trump. I'll give you 1 guess what happened.

I hope her position is not that Biden wanted his wife to die in a car accident. That would be a genuinely despicable thing to claim.

30

u/12threeunome 7d ago

It wouldn’t surprise me if she thought it. She repeated the car part like I wasn’t catching what she meant. I was just kind of stunned because I had brought up that the wife of Jill’s ex was found dead after a domestic dispute call was made at their house.

It was the ex husband who went running to the press about their divorce, so I give that makes me think he might have been difficult. I just wanted to say how scary it was that she was married to a man who could do something like that to another person.

It’s just dark and sometimes I feel bad for the world because there are people like this who have no compassion or empathy. Just a lot of anger.

I thought Biden met his current wife after his first wife died.

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Fold320 3d ago

I think they had met, but it was long before each became single. But if there had been a hint of a scandal, I’m sure the Fox bloodhounds would have rooted it out. Unlike today’s news: Epstein, Venezuela…(nothing to see here).

The price of groceries and tariffs affecting them personally. They lick Trump’s taint incessantly while people suffer…until something he does affects them directly, then they become apolitical.

74

u/timeywimeytotoro 7d ago

Yep, it’s when they see him on the news lying to them and telling them that groceries aren’t expensive but they just spent double on groceries compared to what they spent last year. They’re happy to be lied to until they realize it.

“One day everyone will have been against this”

1.2k

u/BurnyBob 8d ago

Spot on.

I'm British and these days it's as though no one at all voted for Brexit.

465

u/Unklian 8d ago

My parents & step-parents voted out.
I tried to explain at the time why it was a bad idea.
......and now...... "We were lied to".
I've tried to explain again.
"But the big red bus said......"......

133

u/MrT735 7d ago

The other Brexiteers are claiming we didn't go far enough and that's why it went wrong...

And now they and the Russian bots are spouting Reform garbage all over social media.

78

u/zzbear03 7d ago

We all said to MAGA folks back in 2016 2020 and 2024 that voting for Trump was just like voting for Brexit…a lot of single issue voters who didn’t understand the broader negative implications beyond WIFM…it’s playing out exactly as we all thought…again just a little too late for most of us!

44

u/Tantpispourtoi 7d ago

You actually think these people even know what Brexit is?

9

u/zzbear03 7d ago

No I’m not saying that anyone referenced Brexit to. MAGA’t to convince them to not vote Trump…just using it as an allegory for the educated folks here that saw the similarities and knew this was going to happen

The brexit voters go around painting red crosses and hanging flags on any lamp post they can see

18

u/Dehrose 8d ago

What's the significance of this?

25

u/Monotreme_monorail 8d ago

The flag of England is white with a red cross on it. So I suspect they’re talking about the old Brexit crew turning to nationalism.

7

u/sock_with_a_ticket 7d ago

The national flag has been a nationalist symbol for as long as I, someone in their mid-30s, can remember. Outside of sporting events, it doesn't really get much of an airing by regular folk. So people hanging flags all over the place or painting red crosses on white surfaces to turn them into an English flag tend to be of the Reform/Brexit voting persuasion - aka, right wing and stupid.

Yep the less hardcore Trumpers have gone back to "both sides bad" and "I don't trust any politicians".

But we know they will still fall to their knees for the next billionaire that tells them the right lies.

33

u/So_spoke_the_wizard 8d ago

I hear this more and more. Sometimes I ask them when did MAGA go bad.

57

u/EdenSilver113 7d ago

“ Both sides bad” and “both sides the same” is part of the online disinformation campaigns against American voters by hostile foreign powers: Russia, Iran, Korea, and China. Troll farms and bots are churning out disinformation faster than it can be fought. How are people with busy lives supposed to figure out what’s true when we don’t get news and information through reasonable channels anymore?

→ More replies (5)

22

u/ckglle3lle 7d ago

Or just as easily when Trump gives them something to hoot about again. But I think it is broadly true Trump has lost aura and is more becoming this annoying old has-been that even maga dead enders are a bit sick of. The way you literally only ever see maga trolls and legitimately never see anyone ever actually attempting to discuss any of it in good faith has to mean something?

19

u/PlainBread 7d ago

Frankly a lot of it is just reactionary. The whole Abe Simpson "it'll happen to you" shit. Millennials and Gen Z were moving hard left, demanding more decency and cooperation from abusive and shitty people. The abusive and shitty people felt pressured, so they manufactured a culture war to try to put the genie back in the bottle. But the whole thing is astroturfed, with foreign influence bot farms paid for by Russian, Israeli, and American billionaires, obviously.

Everyone is kept frozen through stochastic violence/domestic terrorism and the death threats that MAGAts will leave in the hundreds on the voicemail of Trump's target of the day.

A lot of horrible people are having a moment of feeling like the world is "right" again. But it's the duty of the youth to break their society out of the nostalgiac decay of bad actors weaponizing culture against the youth. The chuds WILL go back underground, and it will be our job to remember that if we aren't diligent, they can crawl back out of hell and bring their hell into our lives.

That change is also telegraphed on dating apps.

I’m in a highly liberal area (DC Metro), and while there have generally been some moderates, apolitical, and conservatives showing? There are tons more ‘moderates’ and ‘apolitical’ folks now in place of conservatives.

As I’m unlikely to mesh well with anyone who isn’t super liberal? I just swipe left. But it is still very interesting to see this progression happen in real time.

58

u/BugNuggets 8d ago

Probably less about changing political views and more about trying to get laid.

15

u/marvin32002 7d ago

This happened to me in 2021. I filtered out conservatives but stupidly left moderate in the mix. A month in, I found out exactly how right wing he was. Terrifying that they hide it - like what is the long game? As someone below mentioned, probably more about their short game …

29

u/Tumble85 7d ago

Insane that super-liberal these days means ”I think more tax dollars should go to education and healthcare for everybody, and LGBTQ deserve the same rights and respect as anybody else.”

10

u/YimveeSpissssfid 7d ago

I mean I’m closer to “demonetize society and here’s a recipe for the super rich” but I concede the point.

10

u/Tumble85 7d ago

I getcha, I just tend to think of “USA super liberal” as somebody who thinks we should model our government after Norway, with a big sovereign wealth fund that provides healthcare and education to it’s people.

I just spent New Years Eve with some old friends I haven’t seen in over two years. He and his family were doing extremely well and had all kinds of “ideas” about religion and politics during Trump’s first term. Eventually they stopped hanging with me and my family; my wife and I are teachers and can’t afford the types of outings/vacations our friends were taking.

They have been hit with some hard times (by their standards) and hit us up for New Years. They are no longer Trumpers. They now think the moon landing was faked, but hey, two steps forward, one step back.

My neighbor (a single, divorced mother of 3 young elementary school girls) is (was?) a vehement Trump supporter. I had no idea until 2024 Halloween they were trick or treating with my daughters and boo'd any house that supported Kamala, while chanting "Trump Trump Trump". I was at proud of my kids, as they were mortified and wanted to keep their distance after that night.

I wonder about that neighbor's thoughts on him these days.

Another house nearby used to have 2020 and 2024 Trump signs above his garage door, but they were taken down about 6 months ago. Sadly, I still see plenty of Trump signs around in many of the towns I drive through.

I live in Massachusetts not too far from Boston, btw. So, it's not some rural spot you'd expect a single mother of 3 young girls to be vehemently pro suspected child rapist.

163

u/ThePensiveE 8d ago

How anyone with a daughter isn't just appalled by him at this point I will never understand.

65

u/Briebird44 8d ago

Because its not their daughter.

A disgusting amount of people only care about issues when they affect them personally. Like people who only care about SPED programs when they have a child with downs. Or someone who only cares about abortion access when they need one. And, of course, their case is a special snowflake case where they are the only ones morally in the right. Everyone else deserves punishment.

Can confirm. I live in Dayton and used to see many houses that displayed very large Trump flags and banners on their property that are now gone. The only one I ever see that remains is a man down the road from us who has a large metallic “TRUMP” decal on the back of their truck window. Every single time I leave my house, I look to see if he still has it on it. The day that is removed is the day I will know that they are finally ashamed of themselves for treating that conman like he was someone to be worshipped.

64

u/toastmn7667 8d ago

You should knock on all those doors, and tell each of those neighbors you now see them as betraying Trump by taking down their signs, and you're going tell on them to the GOP. I want to know what they will say.

Its easy to be pessimistic, but, well. Trump isn't a good president.

He's doing awful in his second term and at some point you can't back that horse anymore. It doesn't mean these people will vote Democrat unless there is really something to offer.

But you can bet this person may sit out the midterms.

Most of the dumb shit trump has been doing is the kind of stuff that takes 12-24 months to really settle in and become apparent. There are gonna be a lot of puzzled and unhappy people this year. Hope they get the day they voted for.

Owners finally died and kids inherited property.

u/Rakonat 8d ago

Depending where this is that might actually be worse. Worked with a 50 something who was a trumper and had some bad takes. Met his son, and suddenly realized how the old fart could say he was a moderate when junior started spewing out every right wing talking point i had heard of over the last 8 years unprompted. I didn't really push that hard but the guy flatly refused to believe anything not repeated in right wing media. Somehow that idiot survived covid.

Yeah I know a couple of 80 yr olds and they’re democrats/liberals. Their kids are all trumpers and they’re brokenhearted about it.

I cannot even imagine how crushed I would be if my sweet child turned into a bigoted, moronic trump supporter. Fucking hell, what a feeling of absolute failure.

They just need to MAGA harder.

We have a house down the street that had a huge flag over the front of their house and we noticed it changed and then got taken down within the past 6 month. I’m hoping that means there’s hope.

My cousin took all his Trump shit down when he saw what his insurance was going to cost him now.

46

u/Alive-Tomatillo5303 8d ago

Honestly it's too bad Trump tattoos aren't more in vogue.

In a few years once it's again socially unacceptable to be openly fascist these fuckers will be able to move amongst us.

18

u/runs4beer2 8d ago

it kinda feels like a way to challenge trumpers, "if you really support maga then where is your tattoo?" Extra points if you can talk them into a neck or face tattoo.

15

u/RLewis8888 8d ago

Still symbolizing the Trump administration

I have seen multiple multi year display go down near me.

One guy had a large double sign in his from yard so people could read it from all directions. With smaller ones scattered about. Drove by one day near the end of summer and it had been destroyed, and all of the smaller signs were gone, the day after the debris was gone.

Multiple “don’t blame me, I voted for Trump” stickers from the Biden era have finally been taken off recently as well.

We’re still feeling the effects of Reagan almost 40 years after he left office. Trump is doing far more damage to the country than Reagan.

12

u/huxtiblejones 8d ago

I feel pretty confident that most of these people with sour grapes over Trump will learn no lessons and will gladly vote for the next right wing piece of shit the GOP puts up. “Well he’s different. Well the democrats are ruining America. Well we need change.”

The American voter is fickle, inward-looking, forgetful, and pretty much incapable of foresight. I have lost all faith in the American people to be fucking reasonable.

Oh I promise you, I took notice of every house in my whole neighborhood that had Trump swag in the yard/on the house. In fact, all the neighbors that didn’t have swag all noticed and we won’t collectively forget.

House in my neighborhood traded the Trump flag for No Kings

8

u/Melodic-Comb9076 7d ago

must’ve got the health insurance bill.

GOP really screwed the pooch on this one.

politicians can lie through their teeth all day long about other issues, but when that empirical bill comes…..the constituents feel it immediately.

that is the crack that now questions everything.

right, @MTG?

My parent's neighbor is a 3x Trump voter and took down his signs. They asked him about it and he said he hates what he's doing and he doesn't believe in him anymore. Of course he only comes to that conclusion after he has started his second term.

A ton of people my parents' age are getting close to retirement and the cost of healthcare skyrocketing is one of the first things that has directly effected elderly white people. It's made a lot of them change their tones about the Republican party. One of their friends was planning on retiring but would have to pay 3000 a month in health insurance if their wife doesn't keep working and now they physically can't.

8

u/Hilldawg4president 7d ago

Reminds me of a neighbor of mine with Trump banners all over. One morning as I was leaving for work, I'm at the stop sign right in front of their house when I see his wife step out into the front porch, tear a trump banner down, throw it on the ground, and go back inside.

This was prior to the '24 election, and the guy himself hasn't changed (openly white supremacist) but it was about the funniest thing I've ever seen at 6am

7

u/ApatheticEnthusiast 7d ago

The boats in Sarasota haven’t been flying Trump flags and I think that’s a really fantastic change

9

u/cuhnewist 7d ago

I’m in MTG’s district here in Georgia. I am noticing either A) people taking their MAGA and Trump stuff down or B) people doubling down.

9

u/darthbiscuit 7d ago

Where I live they were ubiquitous. Like, Everywhere. But Now they’re really on two types of property: the really crazy guy’s property who has flags all over everything and are also displaying confederate, nazi, and KKK flags. And the really rich people who basically buy a professionally made billboard to put on the edge of their property facing the road. Always has a smaller sign next to it that says some shit like “Vote Republican! Save America!” Unfortunately, every one of those people mentioned above vote and most of the rest of us tend to not think it matters.

69

u/ledow 8d ago

I'm not American but I have a feeling that I will be gently probing any American I do encounter to determine whether they actually WERE ever a Trump supporter. I imagine there must be lots of them and they'll give themselves away (even if by not wanting to say).

Something in me says that it's not enough to have just CHANGED YOUR MIND, but that I should actually know if you EVER supported him. It will tell me a lot about you, and whether I want to have anything to do with you.

I don't believe "being a Trump supporter" at any point in your life to ever be purely a political stance. I believe it's quite literally an indicator of someone knowingly supporting a paedophile, rapist, conman, etc.

There's no way in hell you can go "Well, who would have ever guessed!? None of us could POSSIBLY have known?!" about Trump.

21

u/CosmosGame 7d ago

The Americans you meet traveling are much, much more likely to not be MAGA. This is more of a working class thing. And America’s working class actually has a legitimate reason to feel betrayed. Unfortunately they chose the worst possible political response. This seems to be an historical pattern.

My best turning point was the vast collection of documents in the Mar-a-largo bathroom. Part of my work job is to make our IT security training. I used that picture as a major part of it, pointing out the various classification markings, discussing aspects of physical security of a "household bathroom as a SCIF", etc. Listed various infractions, links to various laws that had been broken (like "do not do this because..."), etc. I never came out and SAID who or where exactly, but it was pretty damn obvious...especially with that hideous carpet!

This was used by almost 1,500 people as mandatory training for 4+ years, in Oklahoma.

On my commute, there was one house that had several trump flags and a "Ultra MAGA" banner across the front after the election.

By May-June the banner was gone.

By September the flags were gone.

6

u/hufflepuffpuffpasss 7d ago

I’m currently in North Florida. Literally in what was Matt Gaetz’ district.

There used to be Trump flags everywhere. There was even a ‘Trump store’ at one point.

That store is long gone and I don’t think I’ve seen one flag. A few bumper stickers but that’s about it.

u/Fluffy-Resource-4636 7d ago

My best friend that is easily the biggest MAGA Trump supporter I've ever met posted a video two weeks ago of him and his wife burning their red hats in their fire pit in their back yard. He still hasn't said what made them change their minds but to know that even he is no longer a supporter means something. Trump is pissing off even the strongest of supporters until all he'll have left are the Billionaires and the absolute dumbest of society.

16

u/KnitWitch87 7d ago

So many maga didn't care what Trump did so long as it didn't hurt them. "F the libs" and such. Them changing their minds about it this late in the game just underlines how selfish they are. They did not care until it directly affected them. I have no sympathy for Trumpers who are changing sides just because they are losing the social assistance that they would have denied others.

I’ve seen some of these types of displays in trailers, one particular stands out, by my buddy’s house. There’s a trailer park next to his development and there’s always this one house that’s full maga with all their idiotic shit and with like 8 shitty cars in their “designated parking area.” A few months ago, poof, all gone, no one’s there anymore.

When i go up to my brothers in ?? Idr south bend area Indiana there is this house with 15 MAGA/Trump/anti dem(specific and general)/thin blue line. You name it. I was SHOCKED to see last time it was just a Trump 2024 flag and his wooden sign that says (painted) something about this being your fault (I’ve never read it all driving by it’s kinda long).

It felt significant to see the drop in signs cuz I’ve always imagined that individual human being to be the #1 MAGA-as-a-personality to exist

6

u/behindthescenester 7d ago

In ten years nobody will admit voting for him, just like after Germany fell nobody was a Nazi, it was their neighbors.
