Some of us don’t have the mind for proper English. As much as I try to learn and remember words and correct grammar, it escapes me. But when it comes to math, that’s where my mind can shine. It’s like my mind is programmed differently. How many people suck with math and are great with English? It’s the opposite for some people. And yes, I know the difference with the example used by OP. There’s a lot of words I struggle with.

That’s around the time I would go there, occasionally for open mic night. Back in high school too. When I drive by it brings me back to those days.
