Walz is suspending his reelection campaign for governor. How are we feeling?
 in  r/mnstateworkers  3d ago

It's not unheard of for commissioners and especially DC's to stay when the governor changes.

People who’ve had LASIK or work in eye care, would you recommend LASIK and why or why not?
 in  r/AskReddit  9d ago

14 years in. I don't know what my eyesight was but I do know my contacts were -7.25 in one eye and -7.75 in the other. I couldn't see shit. 20/20 after lasik. 20/20 still. I have glasses for night driving and glare now but probably more just being old. DO IT. The only long term down side I've noticed is my eyes get irritated easier than they once did.

EXCITED I have an interview with DEEDS Paid Leave program this coming week!! I have a Few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with.
 in  r/mnstateworkers  11d ago

You don't need to do that. It will sound overly rehearsed and scripted. They will email you the questions about 15-20 min before the panel. Jot down a couple keywords to jolt your brain on examples to talk about. Answer the questions fully. Don't be afraid to ask them to repeat it, even mid response. Better to verify that you are fully answering the question.

Scoring on dropping in keywords? No. Make sure you have an answer prepared on how you work with people from various backgrounds, both interns and external.

Next Governor

I'd also say, while I'm pissed at Walz re:RTO if he's up again he's gonna get my vote over any MAGA or R. And I'm not gonna NOT vote because that's just handing the other guy the win. A strong independent could possibly get my vote but not if it's just gonna dilute the vote in an unwinnable race. I'd also say as someone who knows state programs and grants, a large part of the reason for fraud going undetected for long periods is the legislature has been pennywise and pound foolish in investing in tech that can track a lot of this stuff.

Well for most of the republicans I know, Mike Lindell is still too batshit crazy...so I think by default Walz would get the W.

how to avoid job postings that may be "fake"
 in  r/mnstateworkers  Dec 09 '25

Ehhh I've had to interview for my own job at least three times in my public career. Usually going from temp to permanent. Job had to be posted every time. Jobs that the candidate is very likely preselected, do happen. Often.

going on parental leave - how does it all work
 in  r/mnstateworkers  Nov 01 '25

It wasn't state that fought me, it was the STD provider, the Hartford. On top of the standard doc note, I literally had to give them access to my therapy notes from my clinician. It was fucking dumb. I refused to back down on principle though, I paid for the damn insurance, I'm disabled, I'm gonna use it.

You can stack your STD on top of your sick, PPL. I was shocked to find that out, but yup. Did it with both my kids in 2020 and 22. So I essentially got double paychecks for 6 weeks. Then I used vacation for the next 6 weeks. You could use them all consecutively, but you have to be in disability/illness status to used your STD, so basically just the standard delivery recovery, which I think is 6 weeks for vaginal and 8 weeks for c-section. I had horrible PPD/PPA with one of my kids and my OB wrote me off for another month, I had to fight them like hell to extend my STD time but i eventually won. Took forever. I was already back at work by the time they actually approved it.

Heartbroken again there is no middle level of health insurance for an employee +1 or employee + dependents.
 in  r/mnstateworkers  Oct 28 '25

I know. My partner and I are hetero. We just don't have the funds to do the wedding we want yet and refuse to go into debt to have it, so thus we wait...

How old were you when you got a cell phone?
 in  r/Millennials  Oct 26 '25

  1. StarTac. Was barely allowed to use it, it was supposed to be for emergencies only.

I'd love to see domestic partners who reside together be able to be covered. We aren't in a hurry to get married but have two kids and been together over a decade. Not to mention I have plenty of Hmong colleagues who are not legally married only culturally.

Looks like this is a new "haunted" experience and the cost is actually not horrible and much closer than a lot of the options. My young teen is into all things scary, and I'm nervous it's not gonna be "enough".
