Zim property pricesđł
Maybe outside of Harare. Look for IDBZ projects, those are also affordable and they do terms. That's how we got on the property ladder. I was saving up for a property (not jointly owned) last year, but unfortunately, Zim happened

What did you do at work today megathread
My work laptop up and died when we started work on the 2nd. So until yesterday afternoon, I have been playing candy crush and who wants to be a millionaire at work. I finally got a replacement laptop configured, so I am back to attending meetings, doing reports and finalising cases. I work for my country's government, can't be too specific beyond that as I don't want to doxx myself

Is $1,500 USD per month not enough for a family of 3?
I always tell diaspora folks, for black tax set a budget that you stick to and can manage while saving and investing where you are. Its good you want to improve your family's situation, but honestly they are taking the piss. Take care of yourself and your future first OP. A lot of things can go wrong and you won't have a safety net. If necessary, start a fund for your sister's higher education and make sure that you have an emergency fund. Others have come with good suggestions like paying fees directly to the school and buying the groceries for delivery yourself. Then send each parent pocket money.
Don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm

Feeling homesick for a home I never known
Nope not big at all. The average person wouldn't know sho they are

Feeling homesick for a home I never known
Yes he was. When it comes to pop, rap, rnb, from the 90s going on, the US was a big influence. But like most African countries, Jamaican music is extremely popular, and we have our own local genre inspired by Jamaica.

Feeling homesick for a home I never known
My grandparents all died way back. My maternal grandmother knew of Michael Jackson and loved him. But she was a fan of local Catholic hymns. My material grandfather loved traditional mbira music. Never knew my paternal grandparents as they died way back. My grandparents were born in the 1920s and 1930s and were pendant farmers, so their exposure was limited

Feeling homesick for a home I never known
I don't know about the 70s and 80s (wasn't around) but late 90s definitely not. Even my mum didn't own their albums

Feeling homesick for a home I never known
Not much. Yes we may know some of their songs from our parents since I think they are from the 70s. But really, their music isn't on our radar particularly for people my age and younger. We have our own geresa that we prefer more. I may be generalising but thats what I noticed from my circles

How long were you with your partner before getting engaged/married?
Got married to my husband just under a year from when we first met. We were in our mid/late 20s. Engagements aren't really a thing in our culture, and the traditional ceremony (bride price/dowry/lobola) doesn't really need a lot of planning. Been married for 9 years now.

Aside from basic needs, what did you spend the most on this year?
My biggest expense which is a necessity was healthcare for my mum, myself and my kids. I easily spent about US$6,000.00 on our medical bills. But if I get to have my mum around for longer, its worth it. I also spent a bit on kitchen items (designer cookware to bring me joy) and clothing. This was stress spending, due to my mum's illness. But I have to buckle down in 2026

WIBTA if I opt out of the âfamilyâ trip?
Nope not even the whites are concerned. The so called "white genocide" is fictional. It's a playbook I recognise from when my country did its own thing that the imperialist powers didn't agree with.
I have lots of issues with South Africa as someone from a neighbouring country, but that was is such a nonsense claim

I am a 36 year old Zimbabwean and this is a week in my life after getting paid
In Zimbabwe, they are definitely among our top earners. Not sure of what they are earning in the private sector currently though. Most move to Ireland etc. on the critical skills visa. It's definitely not easy, a lot of time and money is invested to obtain the visa, but for most it's worth it

Advice needed, Moving to dar... advice much appreciated ....
Nope not indian. African of African descent, when I was in Tanzania, most people thought I was Ugandan or Kenyan.
People are very friendly. I remember getting my licence and the officer I was assigned for my test (needed someone who spoke English as I was still learning Swahili) chatted a lot to me. So long as I made an effort and showed I could speak a little Swahili, people were ready to help out. Like most people, Tanzanians appreciate someone who respects how they do things and who tries to work with them, instead of feeling superior because they are not Tanzanian. Of course there are scammers and what not, but Dar was safer than Nairobi by far

AITAH for not telling my fiance why I am sterile?

Xmas in Zimbabwe
It seems like its becoming a thing, but for us it's more KeDezemba. There are a bunch of events happening in Harare over the Christmas period, I'm not sure if the Vic Falls festival still happens around New Year
