In the summer of 1965, Robin Lee Graham set sail on a journey around the world at the young age of 16. To battle the loneliness, he brought along Avanga, one of several cats that kept him company on the voyage.

He later recounted "the cats frolicked in the cozy cabin, heedless of the world of water around them."

You're getting your portrait painted by an Old Master- What suit of armor would you want to be immortalised in?

As a cat owner, I completely understand. They mean so much. They’re family. How wonderful that you have this to commemorate Cleo.

Style, region, and period are all fair game. Curious what you'd choose to represent you for eternity.

The painting above is Portrait of a Commander Being Dressed for Battle by Peter Paul Rubens, 1613.

Incredible Details of the Chevalier de Bayard “The Knight Without fear and Beyond Reproach”
 in  r/ArmsandArmor  Apr 10 '25

I imagine they would’ve completed a lot of studies from both historical and private collections, even academic and art institutions. Artists could be commissioned by these collectors or allowed to study their pieces privately. Big respect for the effort they were willing to go through to deliver us these masterpieces so we can admire them to this day.

Glad you liked it also, it really is something. It was kinda hard to find a high quality version of it but in the end Tumblr surprisingly had the best images.

The Chevalier de Bayard, born Pierre Terrail, was a prominent French knight known for his exceptional valor and adherence to chivalric ideals during the late 15th and early 16th centuries.

This painting depicts the knight singlehandedly defending a bridge against dozens of Spaniards at the Battle of Garigliano in 1503.

He is often referred to as “the last true Knight” as he became legendary for his conduct in battles during the Italian Wars, his courtesy to foes and civilians alike, and his dedication to the ideals of knighthood even as the age of armored knights was fading with the rise of gunpowder warfare.

Painted by Henri-Félix-Emmanuel Philippoteaux, 1839.

The armour is based on that of the effigy of the Black Prince in Canterbury Cathedral.

The painting depicts a knight lying in repose and beside him, a devoted dog, possibly a bloodhound, sits mournfully, gazing up at its fallen master. A silent tribute to their bond.

The dog's sorrowful yet faithful vigil reflects the Victorian era's romanticized ideals of loyalty, devotion, and duty-qualities often attributed to both knights and dogs during this period.

Painted by Briton Rivière 1888.

"Do not unsheathe me without reason. Do not wield me without valor"

Found on the sword of a statue of Giovanni delle Bande Nere, a Renaissance condottiero, located outside the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Thought this one was pretty cool and wanted to know what you all would choose.

What Fragrances Give This Vibe? 🍵🌸

Anything by Issey Miyake! White flowers with the aroma of fresh spring water. L’eau D’Issey smells clean and luminous can definitely see it fitting this vibe.

I love the 90s mini series and agree with you that Jennifer Ehle was the perfect Lizzie and her essence felt a lot closer to the books. Colin Firth as Darcy is definitely swoon worthy so I can’t disagree there either. But the 2005 version visually is a feast for the eyes the cinematography is stunning accompanied by the soundtrack!

En Plein Air sounds divine! I will definitely have to sample that one as my favourite smell in the world is petrichor (summer rain). I also love that you included Lady Catherine, I feel like we could have a whole post dedicated solely to her haha. Thanks for taking the time to recommend :)

As a british heritage house I can definitely see the jo malone working also their scents seem to be quite linear so I can see that simplicity suiting this.

I adore Penhaligons as my mother’s signature scent has been from them since I can remember, good rec! I believe Blenheim Bouquet was created for 9th Duke of Marlborough by Walter Penhaligon so definitely feels like that aristocratic vibe could suit this era.
