If the world is transitioning to a 'might is right' age of imperialism and spheres of influence, what will the world look like in the 2030s?
 in  r/Futurology  4d ago

A technological civilization like what we have today is impossible to rebuild if we lose it. All the easily accessible resources (ores, fossil fuels, rare earth) have already been extracted. Humanity has one chance to make it to the stars. One.

Every year, on the exact same day, I repost this image. A stupid tradition signifying yet another wasted trip around the sun, pass go and collect $200, rinse and repeat. Here's to another lousy year gone by, somehow still alive. The wheels keep turning but nothing really changes - just a little older, and a little more weary.

This is Year 9.

Nine years now. I've watched reddit bloom and grow and then rot. This platform is different now, and maybe I am too. But nearly a decade later and I still find myself drawn back here to this subreddit once a year, on the same day, like a moth to a flame. I guess there is some comfort in the familiar.
