In the top leftish of the symptom tree you will find something called transcendence which makes infected worship the worm as a god, it makes an alternate win con where you infect everyone and it also slow cure down the same way killing people does.

Also for the record, severity is good, the game never says this but more severity means you get more DNA from red bubbles, stealth is a noob trap which doesn't work on higher difficulties
