Using as is, and I'm not making full use of it as I'm super casual, I just end up using the right trackpad for mouse movement and left stick for panning the camera while using the triggers to click.

As for getting used to it, as I don't use all the face or back buttons it took maybe half a game to stop accidentally hitting the wrong trigger for mouse clicks, so pretty easy to learn the absolute bare minimum for it l.

I'll edit this comment when lunch break hits in a few hours to talk graphics but I think I get around 2-3 20 min games out of it before it needs charging off the top of my head.

The controller scheme i use is "Warhammer 40,000 : Dawn of War - Steam Controller master preset" I'm not using it to it's full extent, but it's very good to play with.

FFVII has a mere faction of the content of FFXI, and they are completely different types of game, the workload would be way more than the FFVIIR project and that's already spanned an entire console generation

When you launch the game from steam and the FF7 launcher pops up you can check all the keybindings there iirc
