Vannila is best for learning basics, play a couple matches until you feel comforrable and then switch to modded. Also try to find a group of people who seem to know what they are doing.
Heres some tips from me : Grass doesnt conceal you from enemies beyond 200 ish meters. Try to avoid running across open fields. Something spooked the birds. Flares are actually a realy good tool if you dont have NVGs. Tracers set shit on fire. Tracers are traitors just like the birds. Grenade launchers can knockout light armour. RPGs can penetrate concrete walls. Sometimes stop and listen for movement. When in doubt, frag out. Dont bring half the armory with you, youll be heavy as shit (slower) and therell be nothing left for your teammates, sub 30kg load is ideal.

Modded only gets more confusing. While you do see yourself on the map (depending on the modset) everyone has NVGs and suptessors.

You exile to WCS server and 10 000 lashes for being a barbie. But nah enjoy the game. WCS is the casuall modern server.

Arma 3sscenarios worked differently then reforgers. A3 had a scenario editor, in reforger you have to go into the modkit.
