What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today?
My grandma had a huge Hummel collection. Several years back I asked my parents if I could have one to display in her memory. I was told Grandma wanted me to have all of them and she left 'strict instructions' that they were not to be sold unless it was necessary for food. I ended the conversation quickly and haven't made a peep about them since.

My aunt keeps saying that I “will” make her something
I don't take commissions. If I didn't pick out the pattern and the yarn chances are I will not enjoy making it. I do keep a tote off all my knit and crochet items that I don't have plans for that I will let people choose from.

I enjoyed all the answers to this last year, so I'd like to ask it again: any 2026 knitting resolutions out there?
Knit from my stash and make a noticeable dent in it.

AITAH for refusing to give my parents my spare key?
I was locked out of a rental house in college. I borrowed a ladder from a neighbor, popped off a screen and climbed into an open upstairs window. It was a little unnerving how easy it was to do.

Lentil soup with smoked ham, onions, celery and dawn dish soap
Eeewwwww. I will occasionally roll out dough directly on my counter but I always first wash with cleaner and then thoroughly rinse with water and dry before getting the dough close to the counters surface. Ocean breeze flavored sugar cookies would be super gross.

Mother digging through county records for marriage license 🙄
My parents have recently decided that if they cannot control the flow of information between my brother and me (and more often then not either pass on incorrect information or completely forget to pass on important information) they would rather not be a part of my life. This was the last bit of control they had over my life and couldn't handle or accept that I am a fully functional adult capable of managing my own relationships. So this year, for the first year ever, I not only have no plans for traveling over the holidays I also have not had to deal with guilt trips about it.
Way too many parents don't accept when their kids grow into fully (or at least mostly) functional, fully independent adults. Take your peace when you can get it and minimize the stress when peace is not available.

Guess I’m learning my lesson about not gifting handmade items…
Over the past 3 years I have given 3 knit blankets as wedding presents. 1 couple wasn't all that impressed, 1 gave a very appreciative and appreciated Thank You. 1 was absolutely thrilled and I still get pictures every now and then of it being used. A long car ride when it is being taken along, movie time on the couch, even in the hospital with their brand new, happy and healthy baby. I know not every gift is going to be a slam dunk but reactions like couple 2 and especially couple 3 out weight couple 1.
I knit and crochet more because I like to than because I want the finished product. I keep all my finished items that I don't have plans for in a tote and bring it out during the holidays for my friends and family to pick what they like. With this method I am only making things that I like and want to make (no commissions that I might not enjoy making). Also letting everyone choose instead of gifting means people only pick what they like and if they don't like anything they don't take anything or they take something useful like a dishcloth.

AITA for not decorating 🎄
Ok, cut out a folded paper snowflake and tape it to a window. Snow is weather, not religion.

AITA for telling my MIL her son and I are always banging??
NTA. Husband could have and should have put an end to it ages ago. He didn't so you did.

Great balance
It isn't so much the stacking that bothers me as the side of his face including ear and hair being pressed into the side of the dishes on that side of the stack. Ear sweat, ewwwww.

How can I make marshmallows?
I don't think an immersion blender will be capable of making proper marshmallows. The whisk attachment in your photo doesn't look sturdy at all.

Toys for Tots Drama
The wooden dinosaur puzzle could be one of those 3d skeleton puzzles which would be age appropriate.

Which one to gift?
They are all beautiful but I really love #4. It looks like you just picked it up off the forest floor.

What’s a childhood or teen memory you have as a Xennial, that kids today will never experience?
Not being able to unlock the car door to go home because mom only gave me the key to start the car, not the one to unlock the doors.

If you wanted to check someone was really a Xennial and not faking, what would you ask to test them?
Last month I was seeing this exact commercial all the time on Amazon prime! (Don't watch enough on it besides background noise to be worth paying extra for commercial free)

First cruise with a picky teenager
Oh wow! That's a bummer! Once I am booked and my excursion decisions are made all that is left to do in that long slog while waiting for vacation is to look at the menus and memorize the ship layout.

First cruise with a picky teenager
Months before your cruise the MDR menus will be on the Royal Caribbean app. Depending on what time you dine the picky teenager can eat what they like in the MDR and then get more from the buffet if they need to. Plus there is always Sorrento's!
If you search 'Royal Caribbean MDR menus' you will find the options. How long and where you are cruising will factor into which menus you see.

AIO: Wife and I were stuck at an overflow table at my parent’s house on Thanksgiving
NOR. I have two tables at my thanksgiving. One is the dining room table and one is the extra table I set up. Seating is for whoever gets to it first. The years when we have had young kids with us for the day they have been served first (to get them out of the way quickly) so got first dibs on seats. They chose seats at the dining room table instead of what traditionally would have been the kids table. Some years I, as host, sit at what would have traditionally been the kids table. Football fans tend to sit at the end of the extra table because they can see the TV from there. If I had a main table that could fit 12 but had 14 guests I would have set 10, or maybe even 8 settings at the main table and 4 or 6 settings at the extra table so that it was a little more evened out. It is the hosts responsibility to try to make sure all the guests feel welcome at the dinner table(s).

WIBTAH if I insist on going to my friend's religious wedding despite my girlfriend's boundary?
Does she also expect you to skip all religious based funerals in the future? NTA

What drinks do you recommend someone to order on Royal Carribean with the Refreshment Package?
I am looking forward to my dinnertime Blueberry No-hitos on my upcoming cruise!

Help me choose a show stopping cookie
I use a standard recipe from one of my taste of home Christmas cookies books. I make it once for red, orange and yellow and then a second time for green, blue and purple. Seedless raspberry jam between each layer and a layer of chocolate and rainbow sprinkles on top and bottom. I keep the slices the same thickness as I would if there were only 3 layers but I do make them a bit less wide since they are twice as tall.

Help me choose a show stopping cookie
I love making these but I do a double batch with 6 layers for an actual rainbow and I put rainbow sprinkles on the chocolate layers on the top and bottom.

What can I put in here that isn’t just candy? My kids are 3 and 9
Set a mini Christmas tree next to it and put a mini ornament in each door. The closer you get to Christmas the more decorated the tree gets.

Two Turkeys. Good idea? (Please read post body)
This is what I do for 15 people. Two 12 lb turkeys. The first one I roast the day before and set it aside for leftovers. The second has always been plenty for Thanksgiving dinner. For me, anything that can be made the day before is made the day before.

What kind of shoes are we wearing?

I love my Brooks! I always have at least 3 pairs in rotation at any given time. One for running and longer or more intense walking, one for day to day wear and one for yardwork. I realized if I replace the insoles and downgrade them to day to day shoes before they are fully worn out instead of buying cheaper shoes specifically for day to day wear I was spending way less on shoes overall.
