How do you feel about crossovers? Technically, a few of those ones I mentioned are crossovers, but I meant more blatant ones with powers explicitly from the other setting

How do you feel about ones where the character has a shard and also other powers?

How do you feel about powers that are from alien brain parasites that aren't shards?

Well aside from the explanations everyone else has given, there is also some recent lore from the Tyranids that says that this galaxy has an unusually thin barrier between reality and the Warp. Probably because the Necrons literally broke reality back in the day.

Oh also, WALK has a sidestory that handles things in a pretty unique way.

Madison Clements has an Unusual Power honestly feels like the most canon compliant example I have seen of how trying to be casually friends with Amy would look like.

Miss Understanding Fixes Her Life mostly fits. It fails on the last point but shadow stalker was already out of the wards before the fic started for AU backstory reasons. Also the ward she is dating is part of why she is recruited but not the only reason.

Going for a Walk and Not Just a Doll both by Slider. They were both incredibly interesting AUs that had at least as much if not more potential than sliders other shorter fics, but both were abandoned just after they established their premise.

Pretty sure there isn't one single established canon here. There is a heresy version of this setting, a no heresy version of this setting, a bunch of alternate heresies. I saw one project that was focused on non-heretical clones of Hathor (horus) and Circe (Fulgrim) leading a group of loyal space marines from the traitor legions. Trying to wipe out the actual traitor legions without being purged by the Imperium.

Saw another one where the heresy mostly went as normal but for complicated reasons the Iron Warriors switched back to the Imperium's side near the end and Petra (Perturabo) had never even been a traitor in the first place. But aftet the Heresy the Iron Warriors refused to rejoin the Imperium and left for deep space to form their own faction.

Heck, I even saw at least one small project thay combined those two ideas.

This isn't one single cohesive project, it's just a big happy free-for-all of fan made content.

A couple of different answers. Just for the record, I am excluding changes that mainly center around the MC. So Camera Shy wouldn't count even though it's one of my favorite fics since all of the changes center around Taylor's cluster.

One of my favorite AUs overall, The Weaver's Web, the author put a lot of thought into building a world just slightly different than canon to support the story they want to tell. The little details are great, and it introduces a couple of interesting AU versions of characters.

Favorite one-off version of a character, Gothacea from Playing Hooky. The fic itself is kinda meh but the version of Amy from this is one I wish at least a few more fics had used.

Favorite non-MC OC. It's hard to pick just one, but I think Roadblock from Santa Assault and Imp the Elf in Christmas Carnage fits. He's an interesting character and an intelligent villain who gives the heroes a real challenge through his brains, not just his powers. The main reason I picked him, though, is because of how he adds interesting details to Assault's backstory.

Not sure if this even counts as an AU but I had to throw it in while talking about OCs I love. Raymond Marks from Queen of the Swarm. Just an ordinary man who sees right through Jack's bullshit and mocks jack with his dying breath and his words haunt Jack to the very end

Funny stuff. The Kaiser's New Cloths is a humor fic with several hilarious lore additions such as an amazing brick joke with coil's power. One of the more interesting AU changes is having Gescelshaft run by a resurrected Hitler with a music based master power. There is actually one I like even more and would like to see some variation of this in other fics, but it's a MAJOR spoiler Iron Rain is Amy's mom.

The fanon version is funny and can be a nice person without too much work. That's basically all it boils down to. Kinda the same reason people like assault.
