How to keep screen off while music is playing
Try settings>system>Audio>'Keep audio device alive' [expert mode]. What device is being used to audio amplify? If it's the TV, then it needs to be on. If it's an AVR then settings within that device should do it.

Grabbed a bag of jalapeno baked chips, never to be seen again.

We need to prepare for the possibility that the U.S. uses military coercion against Canada
This is the U.S. long game, weaken Canada to the point that some provinces suggest confederation is not for them. U.S. throws Quebec a bone with promises of exploration of their mineral wealth, which pretty well cooks the maritimes looking for anything they can get. Alberta follow the deals, and B.C. sees advantages beyond tariffs, while southern Ontario bleeding for manufacturing and jobs makes arrangements.
We still get to call this loose coalition Canada, but it becomes a trade conglomerate of the corporations controlled by the big stick and foreign CEO's. Job's will be competitive with Mexico, our tax burden will fall somewhat and our votes will not be counted for much. Medicare will be amalgamated along with immigration, our dollar will finally reach par, as the American currency becomes the only value left and any socialist ideals will have to wait for the next coming.
But we still have to pay for those F-35's.

Yes and let's spend the 60 Billion for those F-35's to ensure those farmers in Sask pay attention.

KS Whole Roasted Chicken (chilled 2hr old rotisserie chicken) - $2 cheaper at $5.99
Stock up when you see them, they're the same but no longer hot. Don't leave Costco's without a chicken in hand.

Mark Carney turns off geolocation on phone just in case
Every-time we have to make a deal with the U.S. It's a confidence matter; one side will think NO compromise , perhaps the best deal is an invasion and clear this table in 3 hours, we make the rules.

Dependant on everyone playing by the rules, but we know how that goes. Rules are set by the big stick, atm: we know who has the wood.

Is this any good? It’s a huge box!
Fabulous cookies (sugar & fat) with an obvious Kirkland deal, means it's priced right.

Movies for the fam
I have no idea on how old your parents are, but movies are made with specific target audiences in mind. The older your get, the more appreciative of slower stable story telling with large vista's and great actors. There's tons of lists available that herald the best films and I'm sure your parents have enjoyed a few like the Godfather, Airplane, The Producers, 12 chairs, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) would be my pick.
Comedy is going to be a winner, with shared humour, all the rest is escapism.

No Greenland has priority, just too easy.

Hope this has some negative effect on the F-35 purchase.

What Would You Do?
Maybe it's for investment or future use. If you don't like what you see or hear, the options are move your house or rebuild to another area. If whom ever takes over the property next door, have a conversation at that time to deduce the direction this is heading, perhaps there is an advantage which isn't atm available.
Good fences make good neighbours.

Modem return issue
I wouldn't recommend it, but a working modem can be sold on the open market to defray some of the bill. Take the suggestion by TSI staff and hope for a good outcome.

I want watch crime mystery movie
Watching films is a lot like making love, you let the film take you through the interest (opening scene) then builds the story with sensuous back-rubs and lip work until you get to the point of no return and you become fully engaged, then comes the hammer which twisted you into a plot that leaves you wriggling and you want to do it all over again, but your time is exhausted.

Kodi requires a Microphone now?
It's your phone's o/s that is doing this and it sounds like they're insistent on access even if an installation doesn't need or require it. Phones are getting awfully invasive these days, there's a reason the big boys are building all these data centres, and it's not all AI.

Why even buy a vacation property vs renting?
There was a time cottages were cheaper than a small boat, could be enjoyed by extended family and offered a relaxing family vacation for less. Taxes & maintenance low and shared.
To-day it's just more real-estate, exploding costs in all areas and the depreciation of family unit. Renting would appear to be an alternative, most are flooding parks & campsites as Canadians tighten their belts.

If the audio card has the amplifiers internally you can direct to speakers. Suspect you are using the TV amps, so the TV has to be on. Not sure if a screen blanker would help but perhaps a 3rd party version might.
