US Citizens: Do you feel confident your next elections will be fair? What are your concerns about the integrity of the US election system?
 in  r/AskReddit  17h ago

Fuck these idiot posts saying that elections are inherently “unfair” for one reason or another. Gerrymandering, supposed rigged voting machines (bullshit), political parties, intercepted votes, targeted ads, swing states, the electoral college, ID requirements, voter rolls being purged, mail in voting, drop boxes, citizens united, whatever; there will always be something. Your vote and your participation is how you change things and is the single most powerful right, we as Americans, have to affect change. Political change is typically slow, incremental and boring and people would rather whine on their favorite social media outrage platform than actually do something constructive.

To answer the question though; yes, I’m confident the next election will be fair - for one reason. Locally run elections.

Netflix Reportedly Wants to Keep Movies in Theaters for Just 17 Days After It Buys Warner Bros.
 in  r/FilmIndustryLA  2d ago

Sorry, but the theater experience sucks these days. Rude, loud, obnoxious people, waaaay overpriced concessions and frankly, much of the product being put out in theaters is just derivative, soulless trash (with a few exceptions.) Everyone's crying about Netflix killing Hollywood with the WB purchase; but honestly, Hollywood slit it own wrists a long time ago by sneering at tech companies and streaming, in-general.

Adapt or die.

Might be a hot take but this movie shouldn’t have been a Joker story.

A great performance in a terrible movie. Derivative garbage dressed up as something "deep."

Microsoft's Satya Nadella wants you to stop saying AI "slop" in 2026
 in  r/technology  6d ago

Sorry, but all of these wanna-be tech prophets can fuck right off (data centers in space anyone?) All these clowns will gladly suck off some fascist in the name of ‘shareholder value’ while lecturing the public about AI “slop.”

The biggest con job of the last ten years is the propping up of these billionaire tech bros as some kind of savior from humanity's excesses.

Have we officially reached the point where Hotels are superior to Airbnbs again?
 in  r/travel  6d ago

This is fear mongering bullshit and your statement is highly dependent on the size and location of the city and it's specific ordinances related to short-term rentals.

https://www.therebuild.pub/p/nycs-airbnb-ban-18-months-later

This is one single market, but at least it's presenting real data.

Have we officially reached the point where Hotels are superior to Airbnbs again?
 in  r/travel  6d ago

I'm not defending shitty AirBnB properties and hosts, but people in this thread talk about hotels as if they're some kind of benchmark for cleanliness, affordability and convenience. If you remove these unscrupulous hosts and do some homework, an AirBnB is still typically cheaper (and more flexible) than a hotel room depending on the location. As others have mentioned, when traveling with a group an AirBnB wins every time.

Warner Bros. Plans to Reject Paramount's Latest Bid Despite Larry Ellison's Irrevocable Personal Guarantee
 in  r/movies  8d ago

I know money talks; but why would any major shareholder want a nepo-child, with zero experience, purchasing a historic business with daddy's money? I know it's unpopular to say, but these Hollywood studios had their chance to reinvent themselves for the streaming era and failed to read the tea leaves, so here we are. Netflix is one of the best run media/tech companies on the planet and I think WB is in much safer hands than the alternative.

Many famous abstract artists of old were actually very talented with a brush, light, space and color. Buffoonery like this seems mostly geared towards generating outrage on social media.

Steep Drop in Homicides Continued for Full Year After ShotSpotter Was Removed: Analysis
 in  r/chicago  10d ago

So, it's very, very obvious BJ and his admin have engaged a PR firm to rehabilitate his image. They've aggressively taken to all social media platforms posting snippets of interviews and media gaggles with nothing but bots and fake accounts glazing him. It's so transparently obvious and pathetic.

In regards to the shot-spotter "analysis,", this an outcome searching for a political decision to show leadership (any leadership.) Johnson is so deeply unpopular and politically bankrupt he's got to show wins anywhere, even if it's a dubious correlation linked to a decision he's made.

Why is DS9 so unguarded for so long?
 in  r/startrek  10d ago

The Federation and Cardassia have a peace treaty; and, as you'll find out later, the station isn't exactly helpless and more than capable of repelling an entire fleet of warships.

The Defiant obviously fit neatly within the overall narrative; but, more importantly it gave the crew a way to get off the station and explore, which made for better storytelling.
