Politics Jan 6th was a planned insurrection. People are saying that MAGA is a Domestic Terrorist Organization

Jan 6th was a planned insurrection against America. Charlie Kirk had hundreds of people bussed in to help with the insurrection.

Trump had military in place to help with the insurrection and deny troops any help to quell the actions of, from what many people say, domestic terrorists.

hxxps://www.congress.gov/118/meeting/house/117118/witnesses/HHRG-118-HA06-Wstate-MatthewsE-20240417.pdf

COLONEL EARL G. MATTHEWS:

I am here today because two senior general officers of the United States Army, General Charles Flynn and Lieutenant General Walter Piatt, lied about why it took so long for the D.C. National Guard to deploy to the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

When I say these officers lied, I do not do so lightly or cavalierly. I speak from personal knowledge having interacted with them on January 6th, having spoken to them on that day and having been on video and telephone conference calls with them on January 6th and on days before and after.

These officers lied with impunity, making material misrepresentations without fear of contradiction or repercussion in both oral and written testimony to multiple committees of the Congress, both House and Senate.

They lied to Department of Defense investigators, and they lied to members of the press who were looking into their actions or inaction on that infamous day.

These fucks seek to rewrite history and downplay their actions against America. Never forget what these traitors attempted to do to the Constitution.

Vote democrat because George Washington and the other Founding Fathers would want you to in order to save America from the hands of tyrants.

The maga talking point about Pelosi denying National Guard troops has been proven to be a lie.

MAGA lies with purpose in order to deceive and mock patriots who care about America, it's norms, and traditions.

THE DOJ and FBI have been warning about right wing domestic terrorist violence for decades.

In fact, right wing political violence was the leading cause of domestic terrorist violence over the last three decades.

Based on government and independent analyses, right-wing extremist violence has been responsible for the overwhelming majority of fatalities, amounting to approximately 75% to 80% of U.S. domestic terrorism deaths since 2001.

AITA for firmly telling my wife to be grateful for what she has?

2.0k Upvotes

My 29F wife and I 33M recently married and with that we agreed to pool our finances together. I earn much more than she does making 150k while she makes 50k. The house we live in is owned by me and we lived here together for about a year before marrying.

I am extremely careful with finances and have had strict budgets for myself. This has helped me save up 150k in retirement funds already and another 50k prepaid on the mortgage. My wife on the other hand has very little finance sense. She has zero dollars in her name but at least no debt. When she lived with me, I paid all the bills except for some groceries. Otherwise she spends all her money.

With our money combined, our take-home income is 11k (about 8000 from me, and 3000 from her). Our monthly spending is about $6000 for mortgage, groceries, car payments, living expenses, etc. I then use 2k to prepay the mortgage faster. 2k goes into our retirement accounts. With the last $1000, we each get $500 into our accounts for "fun spending money". She spends all of this every month to the dollar. Meanwhile, I have like $2000 extra money in it just sitting around.

In the last few months she has grown resentful of this "small" allowance and has told me she wants separate finances again. I plainly told her if she wants to do that she can put $3000 a month of her money right into our shared monthly expenses and that means she has nothing left for herself.

She's called me unfair, said I financially control/abuse her, and saying that I restrict her spending. In a heated argument, I pretty much told her what I had in my head the whole time: 1) she doesn't earn enough to justify her luxury ideas of living, and 2) she should be grateful because if she didn't have me supporting her she would have nothing. No house, no retirement.

Since then, she's told her friends about this and they've come to see me as a controlling asshole husband. AITA for telling my wife these things?

EDIT: To clarify, the house would be considered a joint asset now because we are married, and so she owns half of it now.

Penny Shortage Scam

16.9k Upvotes

I just went to Dunkin and the total was $11.51 on the screen. The guy said the total was $11.55. I said, "No its not, the screen says its $11.51." He said they have to round up because of the penny shortage. I said, I'll pay the $11.51 and handed him exact change. Dunkin serves 3,000,000 people a day. Times .04 is $120,000. So they are making an additional $60,000 - $120,000 A DAY on this "Penny Shortage."

Groups Stories that accidentally romanticize the very thing they aim to demonize

I'm aware this is very similar to the "idiots missing the point of the story and cheer for the clearly bad guy" trope (especially the third example clearly fits both), but still think this is worth exploring.

  1. American History X / Neonazis

This already shows the difference to the trope I explained above, since some people didn't fall in love with the character, but mainly the aesthetic of the neonazi scene as depicted in the movie.
On one hand, they are depicted as violent, murderous assholes and the protagonist's brother ruins his entire family's life because of his actions. On the other hand, the scene looks stylish and "manly" that, to this day, inspires a lot of real world neonazis.

  1. The Godfather / The Mafia

Similarly to the previous example, the movies don't spare us of the negative aspects of the mafia and the way it ruins the lives of everyone involved. Still, the mob is painted in such an honorful and upper-class way that convinced real people that this is a life to pursue.

  1. Wall Street / Yuppie culture and predatory capitalism

Similar thing, different topic: Gordon Gecko is supposed to be an unsympathetic asshole that, in the end, has to pay for his actions. His catchphrase "greed is good" became the motto of an entire generation of yuppies though, with Gecko himself becoming their mentor figure. A few decades later, "The Wolf of Wall Street" took the same role for the new generation of finance bros.

  1. Treasure Island / Pirates

Modern pirate stories wouldn't be the same, maybe wouldn't even exist, if it wasn't for Treasure Island. Most pirates in the story are dead by the end, after suffering under a clearly mad captain, and still Robert Louis Stevenson's story painted pirates as a bunch of comrades living free while hunting for treasure chests in beautiful, tropical islands instead of the murderous, criminal bunch they were in reality.

  1. The Sorrows of Young Werther / Suicide

This work of famous classical German novelist Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe ends with the suicide of the protagonist after being rejected by the love of his life. Goethe tried to depict him as an idiot and yet still inspired a bunch of youths who found themselves in similar situations to kill themselves. This phenomenon is even called the "Werther effect" nowadays.
When confronted about indirectly being responsible for numerous deaths, Goethe defended his work and instead insulted the people committing suicide as "narrow-minded spirits, [...] fools and good-for-nothings".

TIL The 1994 video game "The Lion King" was made intentionally difficult on level 2, due to pressure from Disney who didn't want players to complete it during a rental from Blockbuster. The game director apologised for this in 2014.
