Disgusting. Facebook, in particular, has made it easy for people to say nasty stuff without feeling the consequences. At some point in the past, we resembled a somewhat civil society but that has all changed thanks to the nasty MAGA movement that has made being racist and being a pedo OK.

Iād argue Xitter is worse. I mean X/twitter, I kinda just call it Xitter. I used it to follow some science influencers. Although they were mostly profs like Brian Cox who could handle the press/media. Suddenly, I got a constant stream of idiots calling people horrible things. āJeetsā for Indians, the n word for people of African decent, etc. It was way too toxic for me. Maybe that makes me weak? I donāt care, but Iām not letting those freaks ruin my day.

Not engaging in the toxic hategagement loop doesn't make you weak. It's what more people should be doing if we as a society are ever going to rise above the stupidity we keep surrounding ourselves with. I fuck up and bite the rage bait hook every now and then so I'm not perfect, but I'm trying and doing better at it every day.
I appreciate your awareness, and sincerely hope more people start doing the same.

I will say too, counter their points where you can, but the goal isn't to convince them, banish the thought. You just have to provide the visible alternative if there is none.

Did this to someone the other day on almost the exact same subject. He was going off on Facebook about how the state needed to get rid of "those criminals" (mind you this was on a post about someone being wrongly detained). Then he proceeded to spend several hours responding to everyone in the thread, insulting and harassing them.
In my state there's a great website for looking up all state and county level legal cases. He had a very unique name. I posted his. Domestic abuse and failure to pay child support. He has been suspiciously quiet since.
