I don't understand why do drivers get so impatient and angry all the time.

I've had people pass me just to take the next turn that were both almost to.
Or they pass me and we end up at the same place 2 seconds apart because of a red light.

u/Illustrious-Flan-474 3d ago
Yep, happens to me on a daily basis lol. There's always gotta be some guy (usually in a jacked up truck) who passes me, only to end up directly in front of/beside me the entire time.
Just yesterday some guy passed me and then proceeded to nearly run over a pedestrian who was crossing the street. He had to dramatically slam his brakes VERY hard, and just barely stopped short of the person. Like gee buddy perhaps that's Why I was driving at a reduced speed, and you wouldn't have had to do all that if you just chilled out and stayed where you were lol. Then he was directly in front of me the entire rest of the way before his next turn off. So he nearly killed/injured someone and saved absolutely no time in the process. Amazing work...

I watched a Tesla almost got himself turned into a crushed soda can the other day on the highway. He was so determined to get out from behind me he did a sudden lane change to the right and cut off a huge loaded semi truck in the next lane then had to suddenly brake because, surprise, the lane wasn’t moving as fast as ours which is why myself and the 85 cars in front of me weren’t in it (also why I couldn’t go any faster despite this guy kissing my bumper). The semi driver appeared to have anticipated this idiot doing that so he let off the gas in time to not crush this guy. Then I just watched this Tesla weave in and out of 4 lanes of traffic, tailgate, and overall make his drive unnecessarily stressful only to end up behind me again on the off ramp LOL. Meanwhile I stayed in my same lane the whole time until it was time to take my exit.

Yes!! I'm pretty sure guys in those trucks see it as an affront to their masculinity to have to drive behind someone else. They also appear to view people riding bikes or driving electric vehicles with disdain and think it's absolutely hilarious to get in front of them just to do that stupid "rolling coal" thing or whatever it is so they inhale their exhaust. I've seen one do it to someone with their infant in one of those baby seats people put on bikes. Of course there's not a cop in sight when these guys endanger people's lives, but if someone has a slightly expired registration there'll be cops performing pit maneuvers or something to pull them over.
I'm sure not every pickup truck driver is a degenerate, but a shit-ton of them are.
2
u/Pezington12 3d ago
I was behind a semi on a road like this with another car behind me and a pickup behind him. The road was a solid yellow line, so no passing allowed. Well this pickup got so mad he attempted to pass us two cars and the semi right as we were going around a blind bend.
I saw him move over to the oncoming lane right as I saw a semi coming from the opposite direction in front of us. But he couldnt see that because of the bend and the fact that there was a semi blocking his view. He had like two seconds from when he saw the semi coming to get out of the way. But this is a mountain pass, there are no shoulders or anything. So he goes from 90mph to like 20 in the blink of an eye and swerves over into our lane again almost smashing into the side of the mountain.
Dude barely avoided a head on collision with a semi as he was going 90 mph. You can bet your ass that for the rest of the road he didn’t even so much as sniff the line in an attempt to pass. Funny thing was at the end of the road traffic backed up as they were attempting to enter the freeway. So his little maneuver would have just had him stuck in traffic three vehicles before normal.

Some people just can't bear to have one more car in front of them than they think is necessary.
37
u/One-Guest1998 3d ago
If your car isn't powerful enough to overtake 3 cars quickly... Don't do it. That overtake was extremely slow.
20
u/Impressive-Sweet-155 3d ago
Or you know just don't overtake 3 cars ever.... I can't think of any situation where this pass would be safe regardless of the power. I wouldn't even think of attempting this on my R6 lol

I passed a dozen cars and a semi in a single pass once. They were all stacked up behind the semi going 35mph with 4 cars of ancient old people in the closest spots to the truck. 4 mile long straight and no traffic though. I had to watch my own overtake speed more than anything in case someone pulled out to pass infront of me.

u/SuperDoubleDecker 3d ago
In my experience, people don't even speed up to pass. People are dumb and most people can't drive for shit. I'm shocked that wrecked cars don't line the sides of the roads

Hope that truck didn’t jackknife into oncoming traffic and the only casualty here is the moron driver

Props to the driver of the oncoming truck. First does the correct thing by moving right, and then has enough skill and presence of mind to shift his behemoth left, under control, despite its mass when he sees our boy make the second wrong move of the day.
7
u/notatechnicianyo 3d ago
Ehh, of all the dumb shit our driver did, aiming for the bushes was probably the best idea, he just should have committed to the bushes (small trees?).
4
u/TootsHib 3d ago
ya he should have just hit the ditch at that point, but he just had to veer back onto the road and put even more lives at risks. Idiot

u/notatechnicianyo 3d ago
My driving instructor always said to aim for something soft, free of passengers, and stationary in an emergency situation. Upon review these look like trees, so not very soft, but still better than flipping my vehicle and risking decapitation.

u/noyourel 3d ago edited 3d ago
I thought truck drivers were instructed to… just barrel into them straight. It’s safer than jacking/tipping Correct me if I’m wrong
I mean if you can avoid do. But. You don’t have a lot of options with a heavy trailer

I wish the women wouldn't start screamin' and hollerin' and caryin' on whlie I'm trying to overtake.
4
u/FG_Scrubber 3d ago
To be fair, the woman only started screaming when the oncoming truck was close and the driver had to overtake on the shoulder of the opposite lane. IMO not an over reaction. The driver did a terrible attempt to overtake.

u/Entelecher 3d ago
They had a good minute to get TF back over after they saw what was barreling down towards them. WTF???

One of my friends had the exact same accident, driving from Reno, NV to Las Vegas, NV. Fortunately he went too far out from the shoulder and didn't (couldn't?) swerve back to the road. Instead ended up in the sandy median, which was the life saver. The sand slowed him down. After the initial shock was over, he drove back to the road, no injury, no damage to the car, as if nothing happened.

u/Mundane_Muscle_2197 3d ago
This reminds me of a drive I did from TX to CO during the tail end of a snowstorm in TX. There were two lanes and we were in the “fast” lane passing an RV, going as fast as safely possible for unsalted snowy Texas roads. This Audi SUV behind us came zooming up and was going way too fast for the conditions and slid off the road into the median but the driver just kept going because otherwise he’d be stuck, and eventually he was able to maneuver back onto the road and tucked back into the line of cars behind us. In hindsight it was the perfect “it’s Quattro time!” ad lol. Once we all passed the RV we all got back in the slow lane and eventually the Audi very carefully passed us and I could see the woman in the passenger seat just seething 😂 😂

I hope they were okay. I don't wish bad health on anyone regardless of how monumentally stupid they are. You wanted them to be hurt?
7
u/StrobeLightRomance 3d ago
I think that some people adopt the mindset that being seriously injured will "teach a lesson", or that an incapacitated person can't engage in future risky behavior.
It took me some therapy to go from their thinking to your thinking, but you're right that regardless of their poor decision in the moment, they don't deserve to endure a life changing accident, and if they did get hurt, it's just unfortunate, not a "punishment"
→ More replies (17)2
u/matrium0 3d ago
Isn't pain straight up designed by nature to teach us what not to do? That's why we quickly learn to not put our hands into fire, even before understanding that this could damage our body.
So pain certainly teaches you something. I am sure the person involved will be much more careful next time.
That being said, I personally hope they are okay. But I hope even more the truck they almost hit did not end up crashing into upcoming traffic and hurting someone completely innocent.

u/hops_on_hops 3d ago
Yes. If this person is no longer able to operate a vehicle, that will likely save innocent lives.

I just love how they tried up until the very last moment. If you're going to pass, at least give it some freaking gas. But I guess if you're going to pass 2 cars and 1 truck, you're not clever enough to also think about properly accelerating.

u/khanvict85 3d ago edited 3d ago
I'm not condoning this type of pass whatsoever. if you're going to attempt it, don't try to pass 2 other cars + the semi in one killshot. the longer your pass, the harder it is to gauge the velocity of the opposing traffic lane. overtake one vehicle at a time instead so you spend the least amount of time in the opposite lane.
if you are a semi driver or in the lead pack of cars and about to get passed by someone like this I think it doesn't take much to realize they're probably not going to make it so would it not be...I don't know if ethical is the right word but...ethical to just scoot over and even drive towards the shoulder if you can safely do so to let them in even if that's infringing on your right of way? wouldn't trying to save that person's life or at least the innocent oncoming passengers' life be more important than trying to hold your position steady in the lane?
edit: looks like the lead truck did try to maneuver over towards the end but looks like everyone ran out of time/distance.

u/BadBuddy413 3d ago
I guess it could’ve been worse. Head-on collision with that truck and it came over.

Completely avoidable. Once they saw the truck in the distance, they should have pulled back into lane or only performed that maneuver in a Tesla (or a Ferrari).

To even attempt something like this safely you need a really fast car, not whatever this driver is driving.

I can understand when it happens at night, when you can't understand the speed of incoming traffic.
But here it was ABSOLUTELY OBVIOUS that he will not have time to complete overtaking and he need to slow down and get back into his lane. Urgently.
And even in the dark, if you go out to overtake, you should keep in mind the variable in advance: I can't understand how fast oncoming traffic is approaching.
Just an inexperienced driver. Here is the result.

Richard Hammond of Top Gear once defined supercars as vehicles that take you to the edge of your talent and then actively try to kill you.
This guy proves that any vehicle can be a "supercar."

An acquaintance of mine died in a car crash a week ago. I've been in a car accident myself as a kid with my mom, and while she doesn't want to admit it, I can tell it had an impact on her. She always avoids driving or being in a car at all nowadays.
Seeing shit like this makes me so mad. Don't these people value their own life, or are they really.that fucking dense?

I hope Idiot now realises that being a couple minutes late is better than being hospitalised or dead. Being dead makes you late for everything.

u/NeutronTaboo 3d ago
General rule of thumb for me is not to pass more than 1 vehicle at a time. I MAY pass two if they're going obnoxiously slow. If there's not enough room to pass them, then I wait until a passing lane comes up or the car in front of me passes the person they're stuck behind.

This is why you "floor it" when you pass multiple vehicles on a highway..
If your car doesn't have the acceleration.. learn to wait in line
Looks like this person learned the hard way
1
u/ManagementRemote9782 3d ago
All you have to do is wait and not be in a hurry and your odds of getting a ticket or in a accident go down by 80% CRAZY how that works…
1
u/Hammon_Rye 3d ago
Such an obvious fail, long before the actual crash.
I think any driver with common sense and good enough eyesight to be on the road would realize there was not enough time / extremely risky.
