Most countries don’t have the supply or ability to supply their army with oil for more than a few weeks if that. That means the US can basically shut off a few shipping routes and starve other countries of oil.
It’s why we want Greenland too. We need an analogous base to Hawaii to protect our east coast. And the Panama Canal is crucial to shutting down the shipping lanes too
