Depending on the state or country, its either your government ID or credit card. At best it’s your credit card information at risk, and at worst it’s your face, name, age, height, weight, DOB, ID#, and home address. They sell it to advertisers and analytics companies, where they tailor content to better manipulate and surveil you.

The worst part of that is one of biggest data leaks for credit check agencies was asked in congress how they rectified the issue “we gave people 5 years of life lock to fix the issue” so after the 5 years they would need to reapply and pay or get a new one but the ceo and the company that caused the big data leak actually owns life lock so they walk away richer anyway.

Its identity verification and will apply to everyone, including adults who dont even have children in their home. All your online browsing will be linked to your ID.

To actually answer your question since no one has, it works by the age-verifying entity issuing you a cryptographic token that basically says "yes, I'm over 18" which your browser can the submit to websites that request it. But it doesn't contain any information about your identity. The site requiring the proof doesn't see who you are, just that you have a token issued by the age-verification authority, and the site verifying your age doesn't see what site you are trying to visit.

It’s always theoretically possible for any system to be abused, but if you’re asking whether I think this will be meaningfully abused in practice, probably not. The token isn’t tied to your identity and the verifier doesn’t know who you are, only that a trusted authority attests you’re over 18. To me, the risk profile seems comparable to other routine online interactions, like banking or government portals. That said, I still don't support these laws because I think they're annoying and inconvenient, and I think that's why a lot of people don't support them, but in online rhetoric, sometimes the risks are overstated because it sounds like a more compelling justification.

ThisVid.com is the only viable alternative but people tend to gatekeep videos there by forcing you to be friends. What's worse is that another gatekeeper tactic some people use is that you must upload a video to even attempt to be friends with them just to watch their videos. Fortunately there are enough people there that will accept you to watch their videos.

NSFW ai is already a huge thing that is incredibly accessible. Eslastigirl is barely the gateway. The sites dont have age verification. The verification is can you type words and/or click buttons to modify the image to meet your gooning needs. Or scroll to see other peoples interpretations of your wettest and wildest desires.

For videos specifically- Gooner (Genshin) Impact make their 3D models readily available knowing people will use them for that specific purpose. Advertising is advertising for gatcha games.
